I've played a little over all the main ones and I've never gotten into them. I've never been a fan of the button masher beat'em up genre. I didn't care for Dante's Inferno either and all my friends raved about it. I'm a huge old school Castlevania fan but I didn't like Lords of Shadow. I dig hot chicks with long hair but I didn't care for Bayonetta. I did like Asura's Wrath, but I think only because it's so damn crazy and more of an interactive anime than a game.

The only beat'em ups I like are all old school ones like Golden Axe and I think it's only because of nostalgia. God of War just never appealed to me as a game. Part of it could be that I don't like Kratos at all. Not even a little bit. He'd make a great villain but as a hero he is the opposite of what I want to play as.

This right here shows the misconception of Kratos for those who have not played the franchise. He is was is known as an anti-hero. To understand the character of Kratos all of the games must be played in order. Thew newest game of Ascension will go deeper into who he was as a human being and his family life despite his issue with the furies. If you hate characters like Kratos, I am sure in comics you must also hate Wolverine, Punisher, the Hulk or even Roscharch.

I am well aware of wha Aris did to Kratos. But I still find him to be one of the most unlikable character in gaming. I do like Wolverine, but not Kratos. I like the Punisher, but not Kratos. I like Bruce Banner, but not Kratos. One of my favorite anti-heroes is Guts from Berserk who has a lot in common with Kratos' tragic backstory, but I don't like Kratos. He's the type of guy that if I walked into a bar and saw him I'd turn around and go to another bar. I don't like even like his character design. There really isn't anything about him I find appealing to play as at all. But I could have looked past all of that if the gameplay peaked my interest, but it's not my kind of genre.

Wha?  You don't like Kratos and his totally unique character design!?

I have the Saga, so far I'm at the end of GOW 2, then i'll play the 2 PSP ones and then the best one, GOW 3!

thats the order im playing them, i feel like if i play 3 before the psp games then they wont aeem nearly as good

Play Ghost of Sparta before you play God of War 2. It wont make sense otherwis
e, trust me it pissed me off about the character or Kratos otherwise. It leads into GOW2 smoothly without any issues, because its immediately after GOW 1.

But Ghost of Sparta released way after God of War 2!  That's like saying don't watch Star Wars until you watch the three prequels.

The prequel was desperately patching gaping holes in the storyline and character development of part two. Its not like Star Wars, because it exists between the time of part one and two. It starts after he became God of War, but fills in the gaps to the questionable nature of the rage of Kratos which before then had no reason for even happening. GOW 2 never explained why Kratos became such a threat to Zeus after taking his step brother Ares place as God of War and was quickly overthrown. Before GOS it was just pointless god killing, and now we know why. Learning about Kratos is a very  good reason to play the prequels because as a character with only the GOW trilogy he was a one dimensional character that had zero likeable nature. Over the course of this gen, the lore of Kratos has grown and he's no longer one dimensional.

Did it make any sense?

@S.T.A.G.E.
There's nothing to explain from God of War 1-2. Kratos was pissed off cause he's constantly abused. He was promised they'd get rid of his nightmares, and they didn't. He wanted to just end his life cause he was fed up with himself and what he did. Yet they didn't even let that happen. They forced him to be the new god of war instead. They didn't give him what he asked for, they instead did everything he didn't ask for. He became the god of war against his will, so he started wars alright, pissed off the gods good. This led to a paranoid Zues to get even more paranoid about Kratos killing him, since Kratos is his son (Zues killed his father before him for instance). That last sentence is the story for God of War 2. Whatever happened in Ghost of Sparta is either retconning things or just adding (Not sure which or both, since I haven't played it yet).

You're only explaining the mentality of Kratos around the first GOW period. You only have part of the bread crumb trail which continues with the nightmares after he becomes the GOW. The gods biggest fault is that they never got rid of the nightmare. What happens in Ghost of Sparta sends him over the edge, he would've let the gods live had it not been for the lies, deceit which led up to him finding out certain things and caused the gods to try to assassinate him in part two and now he's doubly searching for revenge. The nightmare led him to find out something Athena and the gods begged him not to pursue. I will not say what those things are because apparently not enough people have played GOS.
