There's nothing to explain from God of War 1-2. Kratos was pissed off cause he's constantly abused. He was promised they'd get rid of his nightmares, and they didn't. He wanted to just end his life cause he was fed up with himself and what he did. Yet they didn't even let that happen. They forced him to be the new god of war instead. They didn't give him what he asked for, they instead did everything he didn't ask for. He became the god of war against his will, so he started wars alright, pissed off the gods good. This led to a paranoid Zues to get even more paranoid about Kratos killing him, since Kratos is his son (Zues killed his father before him for instance). That last sentence is the story for God of War 2. Whatever happened in Ghost of Sparta is either retconning things or just adding (Not sure which or both, since I haven't played it yet).

You're only explaining the mentality of Kratos around the first GOW period. You only have part of the bread crumb trail which continues with the nightmares after he becomes the GOW. The gods biggest fault is that they never got rid of the nightmare. What happens in Ghost of Sparta sends him over the edge, he would've let the gods live had it not been for the lies, deceit which led up to him finding out certain things and caused the gods to try to assassinate him in part two and now he's doubly searching for revenge. The nightmare led him to find out something Athena and the gods begged him not to pursue. I will not say what those things are because apparently not enough people have played GOS.

I have and can only agree w u :3

Played all but God of War 2. Currently working on that one.

It's regarded as the best one.

I have the Saga, so far I'm at the end of GOW 2, then i'll play the 2 PSP ones and then the best one, GOW 3!

thats the order im playing them, i feel like if i play 3 before the psp games then they wont aeem nearly as good

Play Ghost of Sparta before you play God of War 2. It wont make sense otherwise, trust me it pissed me off about the character or Kratos otherwise. It leads into GOW2 smoothly without any issues, because its immediately after GOW 1.

dammit i finished GOW2 last night

It should be $15 on PSN in HD if you dont have the collection.

im not sure what u mean, i have all the games i just played gow2 before ghost of sparta

You'll only be able to like Kratos if you care to know about his past. Do you know that Kratos was tricked into killing his own wife and daughter by the God Of War, in which he had put his faith? And then the Gods tried to kilL him innumerous times? And he remained prisoner of his deeds forever? Anyways what matters most is that the the combat is thrilling and exciting as hell, besides being full of blood and gore. Also the epic sense of scale and boos battles is what lures me to the series.

I also did not like Kratos at all, I picked up GoW 2 and found a guy full of rage and hate, trying to kill everyone, and then I stopped playing and never looked back. Maybe (only maybe) if I had started playing the first one I would have like it more, but Kratos from GoW 2 did not clicked with me.

So to answer the op, never beat a GoW game, and according to my impressions on the character, never will.

Exactly. GOW2 doesn't even completely explain it either. GOS will be satisfying though in explaining.

You don't have to play Ghost of Sparta to know Kratos was fed up with the Gods.  You don't have to play Ghost of Sparta to know the god's have been lying to him.  *Will fill in this sentence after I play Ghost of Sparta as the Deimos they showed in trailers for it it isn't the Deimos they showed in God of War 1*.  There isn't anything in Ghost of Sparta that you have to see to show you why Kratos is fed up, it was shown quite clearly when he jumped off of Olympus.  Whatever they added for Kratos' assassination other than Zeus being under control by the evils of Pandora's box is retconning the story.

Story-wise at least. It doesn't have the snazzy boss battles like 3.
