I think the button layout is fine. I'm sure 99% of gamers will agree. But adding something that could be useful like a touchpad could be game changing if used properly. Or could not be used at all. Everyone is happy.

I never said the layout wasn't fine - it's brilliant as they've had 20 years to refine it but there lies the issue: it's 20 years old. You can only do so much with existing controllers. They need to completely redo it and I'm not talking make another button-stick pad, I'm talking about a completely new and more versatile interface.
