Forums - Nintendo - Satoru Iwata implies he may resign if operating income target for next FY is not met

I should report him for being off topic and his flame baiting! It sad really, just let him have his 'fun' some people are just like that i guess!

His comparison is quite on topic. You are judging Iwata's performance based on results and he finds that there is a double-standard as compared to judging Sony's leadership.

If you can't understand that you should honestly report yourself.

Sorry to late for this party, but this thing about Iwata hinting of him to resign is down right ludacris! Why would someone hint about it when it's not even shown in the discussion board??? It baffles me to no end...

If these investors think times are rough now, they should go back to 2004. GameCube had by that time been resigned to a life of only modest success, and DS had been announced at E3, which everyone thought would be the death of Nintendo. The popular line back then was that PSP was going to kill GBA and make DS obsolete before it even had a chance to sell. Then what happened? PSP's media format completely failed to catch on, and PSP had low software support and very low market share outside of Japan.

Times may be kind of rough now, but only in comparison to 2007/2008, which was literally the largest explosion of video game sales in the history of the industry. It will probably never be repeated. The market today is still a lot bigger than it was in the PS2/ Xbox/ GCN era. People have such horrible memories. I feel bad for Iwata at times like this.

It's the curse of growth. No longer is profit or mere economic expansion enough: rates of growth have to be faster and higher than before or loldoomed.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I don't want to see Iwata go. The last thing I want is him being replaced by some jackass who has a "profit first" type of mentality.

gtfo already i want more new ip's

Blimey, that's some insane interpretation of the two small quotes provided in the story.

VGChartz

the thing that makes this interesting is that Iwata wants to make 1b so who knows what guns they have prepared for this year!

will 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Retros game, Pikmin 3, Wii U Fit be enough for Wii U as well as Pokemon XY, DQ, MH4 and whatever they have up their sleeves be enough?

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

There are people who like Iwata and there people who want him to commit seppuku in front Nintendo HQ.

If somehow the worst happens and Iwata indeed resigns, my fear is the next CEO will be what you might call a 'yes man' and give in to shareholder demands of putting their IPs on iOS/Android.

If Iwata resigns I think it would be the sign that times have changed so much that Nintendo literally cannot sustain a profitable, growing business without having software on smart devices. If that were to happen, Iwata probably should resign, as he made it his job to prove that Nintendo could be successful without releasing software on smart devices.

I do think a move like that would probably completely take me out of the Nintendo fan club, though. Playing a Mario game on my cell phone by swiping my index finger would be the death of Mario in my opinion. I'd rather just not play games at all than do that.
