It looks terrific, but I need a proper story mode in it. If not, I am not buying.

i hate "story modes" like the ones in Unit 13 and COD:BLOPS:Declasified. So hopefully KZ:M will have a great story mode.

Dude, it has a story mode. 9 missions of one hour each where you play as a Mercenary. It's story based but not lineair gameplay since you can play in the way you want (tactics). When you complete the Story than you can start with challenges of those 9 levels.

So you are telling me the game is based on 9 missions that follow the same cohesive story plot? If that is so, then I will buy it.   The problem is that so far, the developers of the game are always talking about mission contracts or mission objectives (something like Unit 13), so it looks like you can select from a variaty of missions the one that suits you better, so you may end up killng ISA or Hellghast soldiers.

That is why I dont think it has a proper story mode, and if it indeed has, they are promoting the game the wrong way, because so far, for me it is like another Unit 13 on steroids.

EDIT: info from the psblog: "Danner is a former UCA-soldier who has no qualms about taking on paid contracts from the ISA as well as the Helghast."

"When a seemingly routine mission to evacuate the Vektan Ambassador and his family in Pyrrhus goes awry, Danner discovers that the outcome of the war could very well depend on the fate of the Ambassador’s young son. With both sides going to increasingly desperate lengths to get hold of the boy, he begins to wonder whether the price of victory is really worth the paycheck."

So if you can makes "choices", do you really think it will have a proper story mode depending wether you fight for the ISA or the Helghast??? No way in hell dude.   This game so far according to me does not have a proper story mode.   It just has some story context for each mission (like unit 13) but not a story mode.

It does man..basically what you described is also what shooters have for a story mode doesn't it? Story and context which get's more detailed as you do more missions.

long story short.  What I want is a story mode like in KZ2/3 but portable.

Golden Abyss on Vita:

Killzone Mercenary on Vita:

I think this is the real comparison to show naysayers how great the graphics are. Blown up on a computer screen GA looks so so but on the Vita screen it rivals Uncharted 1. Now that killzone shot blown up on PC ALREADY compares with PS3 graphics and looks pretty good on a 20+ inch monitor. On the Vita's 5 inch OLED it rivals the best of the PS3.

Oh and it's also $20 cheaper than PS3 games. http://www.amazon.com/Killzone-Mercenary-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SWYTC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359592878&sr=8-1&keywords=killzone+mercenary

Graphics are nice, but the game looks laggy as all hell.

Looks like a real portable FPS, but I'm worried about that framerate.

Didn't you read the coverage that Polish magazine had? They said the framerate is stable even during large action sequences.

It's improved over the original compressed trailer, but I still noticed some severe frame frate dips during explosions.

Amazing! I can't BELEAVE this is running on a portable! Day 1

In this interview with Geoff Keighley they discuss framerate at 4:20 http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/jth58y/gt-tv-killzone--mercenary---green-vita-interview

8 months is more than enough to optimize the explosions.

I wouldn't take his word for it, but you're right, the game could be improved in 8 months.

Check out this hidden gameplay I discovered. Includes the HUD.

To all the people saying it looks laggy - That's because the video player they used is complete shit. It's like the one on ign. If you watch the trailer on the PlayStation youtube account it looks absolutely fine to me. Even the developer said the game will run at a constant 30 FPS even during large action sequences.

Ohh man DAT graphics.

Anyway they need to fix the framerate

Yay!!!
