Forums - Gaming - 'Prince of Persia' Franchise "Paused"

The Prince of Persia franchise has been “paused,” Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat confirmed.

In an interview with IGN, Mallat stated that this once massive series has been put on the back burner. But, while that may sound pretty tragic for fans of the high-jumping adventures of the Prince, he explains that it isn’t a bad thing.

“Brand management is a tricky thing,” Mallat said. “It needs people’s attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it.”

Both Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs seem to be Ubisoft’s major, AAA focuses at the moment, but with a new generation of consoles just around the corner, Prince of Persia could return.

“I’m not scared at all for Prince of Persia fans,” he said. “We’ll find something to entertain them with in the future. Prince of Persia is part of Ubisoft’s portfolio. As a matter of fact, we sometimes iterate on franchises and sometimes we give them time to breathe and time to grow, or time to rest. Prince of Persia is as important as any other franchise for Ubisoft. As soon as we have something to show, we will.”

What a shame. Sands of Time is one of my favorite games of all time. Sad to see such a great franchise having to take the back seat just so they can focus on Assassin's Creed, a mediocre series in my opinion, because it's bringing in the money. Sands of Time was revolutionary and an amazing game.

Edit - Also, I can't believe they made another Assassin's Creed game after the first one. AC 1 was probably the worst game I have ever played. That game is so repetitive.

Assassin's Creed is pretty much the evolved version of Prince of Persia

As third person shooters seem the evolved version of last gen's action platformers

They should stop milking AC. AC should'nt be a yearly franchise, that is ridiculous.

What they should do, the healthiest thing for both franchise, they should alternate between a new AC one year and a PoP the next.

What?! I can't hear you over all this awsome! - Pyrrhon (Kid Icarus:Uprising)

Final Ultimate Legendary Earth Power Super Max Justice Future Miracle Dream Beautiful Galaxy Big Bang Little Bang Sunrise Starlight Infinite Fabulous Totally Final Wonderful Arrow...FIRE! - Wonder-Red (The Wonderful101)

Well i'm going to have to pick up the hd collection if i find it somewhere cheap.

Its a shame though i really liked the franchise. Hope they finde someone to make a new game soon.

Hasn't this series been on this so called pause for awhile now?... Pretty sure the last time I heard of a Prince of Persia game coming out was in 2008. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

It's not all the bad if it takes a break. The tombs in AC2 were fun and reminded me of POP platforming. As long as they incorporate those ones in Assassin's Creed series i am okay with it.

2010, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Did you forget about this game? *wink*wink*

I genuinely thought Prince of Persia 2008 was the best game in the series; I thought the others were too banal; really disappointed they didn't continue it, the sales were modest.

They should've continued it because even if it didn't sell as much as Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft would still be maintaining that fanbase however small.

Very disappointed, the 2008 game was one of my favourite games this generation.

They should of continued with the original Sands of Time type of gameplay and visuals. I tried Warrior Within but it was just too different and I couldn't bear to finish it.
