Thanks, that helps. I'm not a big fan of Impa or Daruk and didn't want to feel obligated to play them just to keep them leveled up.

If possible I don't really wanna do a lot of the side missions as I just wanna get through the main story, but I am playing on Easy so hopefully I don't hit a bottleneck later down the road.

The main story has jumps in recommended level, but you can still play it even if you are 10 levels below; and when you are that much below the recommended level, you'll get a lot of EXP from killing the most basic enemies. Then there's the obligatory bonus EXP for clearing a mission, so I'd say that getting through the story without doing any side missions should definitely be doable on easy difficulty.

Thanks, that's good to know, while I enjoy the game in general I don't have a lot of patience for stopping between story sections to kill 500 enemies in 4 minutes or whatever. I mostly just wanna keep playing. Up to mission 8 now and haven't hit any roadblocks or difficulty spikes yet.

Revali and Urbosa are definitely the most fun to play as so far.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

Not related to Age of Calamity but the original Hyrule Warriors - should I play specific Zelda games so I can understand what is going on or know who the characters are or is it okay to play as it is?

I've played and completed the following Zeldas so far over the last few years.

-Link to the Past (SNES)
-Link to the Past (GBA)
-Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
-Majora's Mask 3D (3DS)
-Twilight Princess (GCN)
-Skyward Sword (Wii)
-Breath of the Wild (WiiU)
-Four Swords Anniversary (3DS)
-Link's Awakening (3DS of the GB Port)
-Tri Force Heroes (3DS)
-Link Between Worlds (3DS)

I havent played/finished the NES games, Wind Waker or the DS games.

It's its own thing, you don't need to have played something beforehand. The only characters that aren't going to be familiar to you are the Wind Waker ones, and there are not a lot of them.

So are there any characters you can afford to neglect in Age of Calamity? I kinda don't wanna play as

Spoiler!
Hestu or Daruk

if I can avoid it.

If you don't intend to play late game side missions, you can afford everything.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

I have just finished chapter 2, and have been doing the side missions as they pop up. Holy smokes I am in love. Honestly, the soundtrack is phenomenal and it is something that I wish BoTW had more of. The Champion Revali theme has been in my head all day. So good. I have to say, this particular artstyle and world is becoming a favourite of mine (Zelda's design already was my favourite of hers in the franchise). I am so ready for the rest of this game. It is also making me love Breath of the Wild more, because even though it isn't one of my favourite Zelda games, I love the characters and what story there is. Also not having to worry about weapons breaking is awesome!

I feel like this will be similar to Link's Awakening though in terms of sales... Didn't that game ship 3 million in its first month of release and only 1.3 million since then? I dunno, I would love to see it hit 5 million.

Truly makes most of us feel pathetic for even being able to complete the mission ....

Still, 2 Lynels at the same time ?! This is insane !!
