It's hard to know a game is awesome until you play it. Xenoblade's release so late in the Wii's life - and only after pleading from fans - really hurt it. I mostly gave up playing Wii a while back because I find the SD visuals look terrible after playing in HD. But I wanted to play the game and I waited till I had a WiiU because I didn't want to transfer the save file, and I was curious how the game would look with HDMI output. But I've been totally blown away with the title. I'm only in the early stages, but even Colony 9 is so detailed and vast. I love that everything you see is real and part of the interactable game. There is nothing that is just background. You climb high into the mountains and look down upon the colony in full detail in the distance.

When I say the game reminds me of FFX, I mean that as the highest compliment as FFX is among my absolute favorite games of all time. It's a different game, but it is comparable in visuals, music, unique setting, sense of adventure and a starring character who is both part of the story but also good at being the player's window to the world. Other games I feel it draws from are FFIV(style), WoW(combat) and Halo(setting, visuals). It is also a totally unique experience in its own right. I also like that there is lots of loot to fully equip, and that character appearence is changed by equipment - something that FF often lacks.

So can the wiiU play all wii games?

I think it was like 95% of them. So, yeah. Almost all of them.

Are the 5% games that nobody likes? lol

I'm pretty sure they are :D Unless a game REQUIRES something to be plucked into the GCN ports it will run fine on the WiiU

Hmm in that case I may consider buying one, just gunna wait for some good games to come out first. And Id really like some kind of trophy/ achievements system put in place.

I wouldn't count on a global trophy system (unless Nintendo feels like it there probably won't be any), but most of the later Wii games had their own trophies and so will WiiU games.

Graphics are important to me. I like nice scenery. If I decide to go for a drive, I will pick a twisty coastal road through mountains in ocean over a boring freeway any day. I also like clear images, watching HD is far better than blurred out SD images, particularily on a large television. Great graphics can help you get lost in the wonder of a story. That's not to say they are everything...I too was bored with FFXIII... but they are important.

disagree, not gonna compare a video game that you actually play to looking at a mountain.  You can't play an art painting, you can only look at it.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Man they better keep some of these composers for "X". Specifically ACE+

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

The one game I wish I could play :(

Currently own:

  • Ps4

I got given a pirated version of this game from a friend, don't have a wii though. I read online aswell that it was also heavily pirated on US release.

If it wasn't pirated it would sold 1mil easily.

I heard it was pirated 800k times, so if each one was a sale, that'd be over 1.6m.

1 Pirated copy does not mean 1 lost sale.

I know, I never said it did. But realistically, some of those 800k piracies would have been purchases had the Wii been pirate-proof.

I play on a 50 something inch tv,  the screen is filled with SD awesomeness!

I actually find many Wii games, including Xenoblade, to be quite attractive on my 32" TCL HDTV with component cables, it upscales very well. Yeah, there's jaggies, but it's not too bad as I sit a good 2-3 meters back from the TV, and the colours come out very nicely.

When the art is a game like Xenoblade, you get to do both.
