Forums - Politics Discussion - CT senator says games influenced Sandy Hook shooter and CA Senator says "Gamers need to Quiet Down"

As a young person, kinda agree, that most of these people are easily influenced by violence is any form of media, videogames are no exception, they are just targeted the most.

I think what America as a culture should do is lessen the depiction of guns and violence in general, not just in videogames but in TV shows/movies as well. (PFFFTTTT yeah never gonna happen)

The problem isn't the video games, it's the people and culture that are easily acceptant of them. Of course your psyche is going to be affected if you start playing COD when you're 13. People need to pay better attention to ratings.

It's easy to pinpoint violent video games, but we can't act like the media glorifying these killers, violence in the news, violent movies and violent music has zero influence on them as well.

However, never expect the media to blame the media.

Still, I don't think we really need more violent games. Way too much of it these last few years and they only seem to be gaining traction, which is concerning.

When it comes to games however, it is the parents fault for buying CoD for their 10 year old kid.

That an t the industries fault. People need to stop being useless shuts and start being responsible for their own kids rather than expecting the government to do everything for them.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

I'm saying young people are easily brainwashed and influenced.

Which is why they need to be disciplined and taught by their parents the difference between Reality and Fantasy.

And I agree with that being a father of three young children. But we can't just ignore that some how these shooters have the one thing in common which is violent Video Games.

So, what is your answer, then?  Censor all games, movies, and music?  The truth is, none of these things make people do anything.  The largest and only real  cause of these tragedies is mental health issues, whether they be genetic or from a poor upbringing.  So, it is ridiculous, as well as ineffectual, to censor EVERYTHING for the masses of law abiding citizens, when it is only an extremely small percentage of society carrying out these violent acts.  It's no different than banning chocolate/candy to stop all the obesity related deaths.  Not only would it not be fair to all those who enjoy it responsibly, it would also not work.

Where in any of my post that I mention the word Ban or Censor?

What if they all liked coffee? Are we going to blame Starbucks for their violence? Or maybe, just maybe, these people are mentally ill and shouldn't even be in possession of a weapon. Naa that can't be it, I must be crazy.

Why can't we stop blaming other things for these children's deaths? It was the kid that killed them. Not the games. If a person thinks they can go on a shooting spree because that's what they do in CoD then they need Therapy.

Ok, then what's your answer if you believe the games played such a large part in these shootings?

Drinking coffee, going on a mass murder is the same to you as playing violent video games, going on a mass murder. Sorry dude, done debating with you. Have a good night.

There are a variety of things that influences people's minds some are just more easily swayed then others. If that kid was fed with non-violent games, he might have not done so. But since it's impossible to enforce that, I think all we need is a better way to convey to the buyers that the game is graphic, violent, and contains inapporpriate messages.

The M-rating holds 0 influence over here, more it's shown as a sign of approval, it has to be violent enough to get an M or it won't sell, and that's what has to change.

Which is why I like the PEGI rating of a giant red 18 over a black and white M.

good

lets ban violent video games along with taking guns away. I mean we ALL KNOW that there will still be gaming influenced shoot outs EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NO GUNS TO DO THE SHOOTINGS(being that they will eventually be taken away)

lol the people who did these shootings were 100% playing games like Grand Theft Auto right before doing the shootings. it's not like he planned the shooting before hand. He was just brainwashed by a good session of Grand Theft Auto, people

so maybe we should keep guns in the Americans hands while banning violent video games because WE ALL KNOW that these shootings will cease when these video games are all banned

Halo, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Crisis, Mass Effect, Battlefield, Bioshock, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Metroid, Starfox all need to be banned because gamers are being brainwashed

God Of War, inFAMOUS, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space, Fallout Crackdown, Splinter Cell, Alan Wake NEED TO GO!!!

also games that have swords or bludgeoning individuals with hammers or even setting an individual on fire in them are violent aswell so

The Elder Scrolls(Oblivion, Skyrim), Final Fantasy, Tales Of(Vesperia, Grace, Xillia),Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Paper Mario, Star Ocean, Fable, Demons Souls(Dark Souls), Ni No Kuni, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Zelda

all these games need to go aswell

SMGDH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe that there are people who would even remotely entertain this. You see how easy it is for them to even get gamers to agree with them. what will be the next barrier they break down? oh, because THERE WILL BE another..

you all can sit here and let our game industry get nudred if you want...
