Forums - Sales - SCEE Figures - PS2, PS3, PSP all sell over 1M in December

Hmm, ioi what do you think? Mods?

I find it hard to think that it outsold 3:1.

Um, the article says sell-though which means sold to retailers.

“In December we sold just over a million PlayStation 3s during the month,” he told MCV. “That’s across all PAL territories and that’s a sell-through figure.

I'm pretty sure he means sold through to consumers.

Yep, though i'm sure someone is going to have to dig out the interview where sony states that "Sell-through" = "Sold to retailers."  Or was that an Email that was sent?

From Nintendo of Europe Q4 earnings report:

"The table below lists European sales figures as of the beginning of January 2008. These are sell-through figures based upon retail sales in each European country that are provided by independent research companies."

Sell-through clearly means sold to consumers.

@Kasz: I think that was an e-mail. Bud did it state that using a sell-through meaned sold to retailers in that one particular Sony's statment or did it state that Sony use "sell through" as "sold to retailers" in general? An was it the same Sony' division? Wasn't is SCEA?

The thing is that I find it hard to see Sony commenting on PS3 vs X360 shipments. Where would they even get the numbers of X360 shipment? I don't think MS is releasing those information to them. I'm still skeptical as I remember Sony manipulating with numbers in past and the ratio seems really high but I also don't see Sony commenting PS3 vs X360 shipments.

It was SCEA. Sony representative in response to question about previus

Sony's statment saying that they sold 1.2 million of PS3 in America after Black Friday said:
“Hi (JMazel),
Yes, we are reporting sell through data (sales to retail). If you have more
questions on specific data I can put you in touch with {our} Analyst Relations Manager.
Please let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks, (Sony)”

Besides, why would he explicitly emphasize that they were sell-through if that meant shipped? Why would he want to point out that they weren't sold through to consumers?

If this was Nintendo FishyJoe wouldn't have even commented on it.

Well, maybe it's a US thing, but in Britain sell-through generally means sold through to consumers. I guess I'll have to send an email to SCEE now. Im still pretty confident it's sold through to consumers.

Edit: Sent SCEE my query on that point, hopefully they'll get back to me.
