I'd still have to say that the most influential game of of this generation was Wii Sports.
It created a whole new market for games to explore, and single-handedly propelled the Wii to top sales.
It pretty much started the other companies into creating Kinect, Move, and 3rd parties tried to cash in on the action.
"Gamers" may hate it, but you have to realize, Wii Sports turned around Nintendo's fortunes. The Gamecube had sold just 22 million units and was even outsold by the original XBOX. Yet Wii Sports revived Nintendo's fortunes in such a massive way both Sony and Microsoft began to want a piece of the motion control action.
People around the world were charmed by it's simplicity, this game may have just changed the world's image on videogames in general, not as a nerdy thing as a dude plays in his mom's basement, but as a new format of interactive media.
If we as gamers already knew the potental of video games and what they can do, this is the game that brought that to the masses in an accessable way. This game single-handedly expanded the video game industry, and redefined what a game could be.
After all, all you needed was the element of fun.
