Meh. Most people probably will already have an Android smartphone, Android as 2nd OS will not make the Vita more attractive.

How many people have an android device with built-in hardware controls? how many with controls as good as vita?

I know i had to buy the moga for my cellphone only to play a few game, something i wouldnt need to buy if vita had android.

The thing is - most people don't give a shit. We always have to remember we're the absolute minority. The most successful apps were already developed with touch controls in mind (Temple Run, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds etc.). Compared to those games the ports of "core" games sell like shit. Again, Android would not motivate these people to buy a Vita.

Even if we are a minority. The kicker is I haven't bought vita yet, but just bought a tablet of $500. If vita had android I would have paid up to $500 on it easily. For $250 would be no brainer. I am pretty sure I am not the only one.

I think most people would prefer to spend those $500 on a 10" tablet with a resolution the Vita only can dream of. I'm sorry, but just slapping Android on the Vita won't magically make it interesting.

I agree and wish they did that...but this would kill their software sales. They don't get any revenue from the Google Store. Piracy also would be an issue... hardly anything stays locked down on Android.

Exactly. The game console model depends on rigid platform control. Involving other companies only dilutes the control that platform companies rely on.

Furthermore, Android would add bloat to the system thereby slowing down game performance. One of the key advantages that game consoles have over platforms that don't specialize in games is the opportunity for "bare metal" programming.

Yeah and while they are at it they could allow for Linux to be installed on the PS3.... That would be awesome! But seriously, Sony's reason would most likely be the same reason they gave for removing Linux security issue. from the PS3.it was a

Here are some possibilities

1. Cost to license the OS

2. Increased demand on hardware = less power or need for more power which = higher cost, shorter battery

3. Profit shift to google rather than Sony

4. Cripple PS Mobile launch

5. Untailored games and apps to Vita's unique hardware specs and control outputs

6. Less stability for running dedicated games

7. Open to hacking

All of those sound terrible for the Vita.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

The thing is that linux wouldn't and didn't improve sales on the Ps3. But android could improve sales on vita.

The security issue is indeed valid, hacking the console would become easier and piracy could overtake. But still, they could release a firmaware AFTER the hacking becomes available and they are able to sell the PSVITA at profit, which will make the piracy aspect moot.

No? Vita's user interface is great.

but it's functionality is severely limited

I ended up buying the vita anyway (heavily discounted on amazon), but it would have been a much easier decision, if I could boot into android on it and have a pdf reader/media player for all possible formats/ manga reader/several apps for drawing/store offline maps to use the gps in areas where I don't have internet

Kinda in line with part of what I've always said about Vita.

BTW, some of you clearly don't understand Android and even what Amazon has done with it.

Piracy isn't that big of an issue and Sony could have certainly made their own android market with plenty of revenue coming in to them vs Google.

btw, this is also something I've insisted Nintendo and Sony should do with their home consoles... GoogleTV would add a lot of features to their platforms.

What is an android................Yeah i'm stupid.
