.....for waaaay too much money.

I'd rather get the Lenovo laptop with the reversible screen that has been out for $999.

Sucks too as I really like this approach MS has taken. Just don't like their prices.

That's crazy talk... So youd rather get a thicker heavier laptop with lower screen resolution and equal performance for same money?

It  can actually be used on a lap w/ the keyboard or as a tablet and has a bigger HDD, DVD/BR drive, and likely better battery life. Its a better product.

I am pretty sure Surface pro uses SDD not HDD though. So that's just a different option.

You're right and the bigger non-SSD is better than the small 128GB that comes in the $999 surface pro. Speed is one thing, but its largely unimportant for most things. I'd rather have the space to hold movies and such.

It's a nice device but non professionals really don't need this.

Surface RT works awesome for browsing, email, office and productivity, light gaming and pretty much anything else you throw at it. The app store is growing very fast too and should be on par with other tablet platforms within 6 months.

You an also remote desktop X86 apps like photoshop or citrix off your desktop if you really need to which works surprisingly fast.

This is true.  It is so much more than an iPad.  I had my first experience with the RT at the weekend.  I was very very impressed.  Did you get a 32gb or the 64gb?

I am getting my wife one and wondered if i shoud get the 32gb and buy a keyboard cover.  Upgrading memory if required later or just forget that and get the 64GB and have done with it?

I got the 32 GB model standalone and bought the type cover...not the touch one. I like the little give in keys that the type cover offers.

I also got a 32 GB micro SD card for movies and music.

the thing is, the Plex app that came out few weeks ago allows me to stream movies and music to the surface from my PC and works really well. So I don't think I even need the SD card storage. 100s of movies and 80 GB of music I have is just an internet connection away.

Why do you need a bigger HDD? Aren't you the numbe 1 fan of the chromebook? With an internet connection there are no limits to what you can do with a Surface pro.

Also DVD/BR drive is not found on any of the lenovo twist products designed for Windows 8 and thank god for that. Who needs a DVD drive in 2013? Only laptop that lenovo has which has  a dvd drive is is the 230t, which is a Windows 7 product...

Using the keyboard in your lap is a valid point, if you really need to do that often. I have no had to do it even once...ever. There is always a table around when I have to use my laptop.

And better battery life is something you get when you weigh 2X as much...its a trade off obviously.

Great for businesses, but not for your average consumer with that price.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

lol, ok got me on the HDD and you're right a media drive is pretty much useless now. I actually haven't owned a laptop in years, so meh.

Guess I just wanted it cheaper. Just feels like a tablet should cost less than a laptop.

I agree it's too expensive compared to what we are used to on the tablet side. I still wish there was an Atom version, but I have to admit I was wrong about the Surface RT. I made some threads hating on it but its quite good...

Yeah they are good. I just can't spend that much on a tablet for what I'd use it for.

I was thinking about getting the Surface Pro but now I'm wondering if I should just get a 64GB RT (especially since RT has office whilst the pro version doesn't). Anyone have one of those? Is it better to get one without the type cover or with one (and what is a touch cover?). Does the RT have a micro SD card slot or an option to get more memory (although 64GB is probably enough for me). Does the RT have a full HD screen? Can you get a better windows 8 tablet for cheaper? Does the windows 8 marketplace have mostly every app that you would need to substitute normal PC/Laptop programs? Is the battery life good (will it last more than a few hours of constant use?). Oh and does the Surface RT come with Word, Powerpoint, and Excel?

The things I would be doing with the tablet are office, general gaming/productivity apps, watching videos, reading books, surfing the web and listening to music (a Zune app would be mandatory for me). Would the RT be good enough to do those things?

Silly microsoft. I was gonna buy an RT but its not available in my country.

Yay!!!
