Forums - Sony - I just figured out Sony's plan for the Vita

No, I'm sorry you are very off the mark.

First, the Vita is selling at cost or at profit given what we know about manufacturing breakdown. $160 to produce plus shipping & packaging leaves plenty of wiggle room and an almost definite profit for the 3G version.

Second, Sony has been supporting the Vita quite well with Uncharted, MLB, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet, Gravity Rush, etc. Upcoming games like Killzone and Tearaway. Just look at the Vita game sales and you will see Sony published a ton of games already and it has only been a year. I feel people forgot what launch year is like for new hardware since this gen has gone on so long, people expect a game library that rivals a 5 year old system now.

The difficulty with Vita is a mix of things. The launch was split, the launch in NA & EU missed Christmas 2011, the 3DS undercut Vita's price match, Memory cards are too expensive, inadequate PR countering against the competitive internet culture, among other things.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I think that if they have called it PSP2 it would have sold better. My nephew once was staying at my place and I was playing on my Vita. He said wow, that game looks good (uncharted) and I said,: the last two on PS3 are still better looking. He replied with: But that's a PSP game lol. And this happened to me a lot with friends/family coming over. Always asking if it's a new PSP. The only guy who directly knew it was a Vita was a 8 year old son of my mother's friend lol.

But a price-dropp would really help though as I've seen a lot of people (most of the time kids with their parents) just playing on the Vita in stores and after asking the price they move on to the DS/3DS section. But still, we firs need releasedates of big upcoming Vita games like Killzone, Tearaway, FFXHD and a few announcements. Rockstar twittered that they're working on 2 Vita games and I just hope it's Grand Theft Auto.

Stories unfolded with my home made rap songs. Feel free to listen here with lyrics: https://youtu.be/vyT9PbK5_T0

Resistance Burning Skies is its own game. It is not available on PS3.

Anyway you're wrong. They won't be waiting years for Vita to become profitable. It's probably already there. I expect a price drop this year with some bombshell announcements.

Overpriced? $250? Really? Maybe compared to the underpowered 3DS.

This is obviously your opinion, but it seems that up to now, >85% of this generation portable console purchasers don't think like you. BOM and the value the consumers see in a product aren't the same, and most consumers see much more value in a purchase of a 3DS than in a purchase of a Vita.

Underpowered must be the new word for "Money-Making Machine."

Maybe Sony should've gone with a "Money-Making Machine" system too.

Nnaaaaaaaa... What if the Vita had been a big success? Surely that would have ruined Sony's plan wouldn't it?

The Vita is doing fine and will continue to sell for many years. Support will come and all this unnatural obsession with one tiny Sony product will evaporate.

It worked for the PS3 and turned it into the bestselling console week in and week out at the end of this gen, and it's going to work at the end of next gen for PS4 too. And that is why PS4 is going to be a Beast and not the moderately powerful console that folks from opposite factions are hoping that it will be.

No. Sony's main market is the core gamer, mainly the adult male gamer between 18-25. An underpowered console would have sold even worse than Vita.

It doesn't seem like an overpowered console has done them all too well either.
