Forums - General - What are the worst rules on vgchartz?

The one that doesn't allow me to indiscriminately ban people. :(

Around the Network

"New Users. Because new users have not yet shown a commitment to civil discourse, moderators will look more harshly upon them (and upon prolific rule-breakers) than established users with relatively clear moderation histories. If you are a long-time member of the site, it is easy to tell the difference between a light-hearted, humorous post, and a genuine piece of flamebait. This distinction is far less clear when you are a new user, so we advise caution."

The rule itself might not be a problem, but some users on here heavily abuse it to post bullshit while newbies can easily get banned for one uncareful post.

How some mods interpret a certain rule and decide to ban you on that. My first ban was for saying "will wait for adjustments" in a sales thread, it was interpreted as attacking the site and its numbers. Ive seen countless people do the same thing. The ban was unfair and is still nagging me.

The one that we have to be naked while visiting the site..

Poster Above You and voting threads require moderator approval. If you do not have it, the thread will be locked, and if you are a repeat offender, you will be moderated. Note that an approved thread may still be locked by the Lead or Deputy Lead Moderator.

^ I find this rule weird too cause I havent seen any "Poster Above You" threads in a while...either that or I havent been looking at threads like that o.O?

Never knew Voting threads required approval as well....which is really odd o.O.

Yeah, that would be because the rule is there.

Before we added that in, a good 20% of the front page was poster above you threads.

So I'm guessing people either stopped thinking about making the threads or are all the requests to make such threads now obsolete and therefore rejected o.o?

I'm not asking/telling it should be allowed without moderation, I just find it weird that its required to ask for permission rather than being completely against the rules since I honestly dont see a reason why such a topic should exist in a site/forums such as GamrConnect.

Eh, just wondering nothing serious ;p

I certainly haven't seen a request for one of them since we put the rule into place. But I have seen a couple get through.

Sometimes those threads can be good, but that's extremely rare. We don't need the forums filled with "Why do you hate the person above you?" where the users just alternate and post every five seconds. But at the same time, I'm not sure I'd want to ban a type of thread outright.

I notice how the goodie goodie users dont get banned when they say something ban worthy. Just a warning.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yup. I blame Rule #2 or more specifically how wide it can be interpreted.

Nope, it is rule #1:

Moderation on VGChartz. VGChartz uses a progressive moderation system. This means that repeats of the same offense will often result in harsher penalties, starting with a warning and working up. Generally permanent bans are only handed out for extreme rule breaking, a whole lot of repeat offenses of the same rule, or actions that threaten the site’s ability to function. However, the administrators and moderators reserve the right to permanently ban your account at any time if they feel you are a threat to the site. This will only be done through a consensus among the moderating staff. Brand new accounts (less than 200 posts) that do nothing but troll or spam will also be permanently banned immediately, at the discretion of the individual moderator. You are subject to moderation for breaking any of the following forum rules in addition to anything in the Terms of Use.

"Because new users have not yet shown a commitment to civil discourse, moderators will look more harshly upon them (and upon prolific rule-breakers) than established users with relatively clear moderation histories."

...implying that you can post far more crap if you already are an established user. Add Rule #1 to the mix and you have a license for BS to a pretty high degree (I obviously won't post any names, but some users seem to get some serious shit past the mods)
