I honestly can't choose. Both types of gameplay do things that the other isn't as good at. 2D provides a simpler, more straightforward experience, while 3D can be immersive and allow more complex actions. My two favorite Zelda games are OoT and ALttP.. its so difficult for me to say one is better than the other.

Can't go wrong with old school top down

3D for me. Aside from A Link the Past and Minish Cap I'm not a huge fan of top down Zelda games.

Nintendo and PC gamer

3D and more Phantom Princess than Wind Waker style.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Epic fantasy style like Ocarina. No goofy Zora rock bands or flowery fields in the moon and anime villains or cel shading.

Action focused 3D gameplay with weapons and spells you don't have to use but still kicks ass. Like Ocarina.

Music like Link to the Past and Ocarina.

Overworld with stuff to do like Ocarina and LttP.

Difficulty like Zelda 1, or Zelda 2.

That would be my ultimate Zelda.

I LOVE ICELAND!

3D is superior in every way, as I see it. It has everything that 2D Zelda offers, be it gameplay from a sidescrolling or a top down view, plus a lot more.

Really can't see people defending 2D Zelda for other reasons than nostalgia.

Its the little details that can be implemented because its easier to make 2d games than it is to make 3d games.  Devs simply have more time to fill the simple world with stuff   compared to the vast but empty overworld from twilight princess  and  (because of lack of time or whatever)  the nonexistant overworld in Skyward sword   its just your town and 3 "levels" to chose from.....   really bad design choice.

The 3d games are awesome but dont have that charme.

?????

Do you mean Phantom Hourglass or Twilight Princess o.O?

Haha, sorry. I'm too tired after my workout. Twilight Princess. I like this darker setting and more realistic Link. I'd like this series to become a bit more adult like, so that we have Mario and Pokemon as the more child-friendly ones and Metroid and Zelda as the more serious ("core") ones.

Do the DS games count as top down? They have an overhead camera but the graphics are 3D.

In any event, I pick 3D.

The original Zelda and Zelda III are all-time greats, but they lose the battle versus Ocarina, Majora, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword.
