I think you are drawing way too many conclusions and blowing this way out of proportion.

http://www.dota2.com/survey/experience/ Sign up again. 2 weeks. Mine came in under 1 week. Or just ask a friend or someone else you know on a forum, because invites are everywhere. 30USD lolol. It's not really a beta because hundreds of thousands of people are playing it right now as a full competitive game. It's unfinished, yes, but so is LoL, so is SC2, so is any game requiring constant balance patching. It's an elaborate marketing trick everyone just walks into. I'm having a problem with the attitude of these threads. The OP is judging people for something with no value. |
I got in a loooong time ago. A friend sent me an invite. The sign up is random, its not a hardfast 2 weeks. Everyone knows it.
It is a beta...you cant promise a million things and then only give the bare minimum. Yeah its a full competitive game but so is dota 1 the mod. This was not meant to be just a simple copy. They were gonna add so many new features for the community etc. They havnt done any of it.
Its not a marketing thing....the game is in beta. They are trying to make money off the harcore fans they all know it. The game is planned to be free to play. Buying early access is just helping fund early development. Everyone knows this it was openly said by icefrog. The op isnt judging anybody you completely off point here.
i havnt played this game but how long has this game been in beta for. why dont valve just release it. is it full of bugs still or something. whats the deal

Not sure about the easy bot games, but you need to be somewhat aggressive to beat the bots. Even if you are winning, after the game reaches a certain point, the bots either get unlimited resources or they get specific items placed in their inventory which gives them an advantage unless your team was doing very well until this point. Team work is the main thing, and these games usually do not have them.

Yes, because the invites have zero value, for the reasons I said: everyone gets lots of Dota2 invites (I have some on my Steam account I can't be bothered to retrieve) and that Valve will give you one in 1-2 weeks via the signup page regardless. Asking people to put in effort, to be grateful to you as a benevolent dispenser of keys who judges the worthy to recieve them, and to value said keys is ridiculous. |
I don't see anything wrong with what he is asking. He is letting people know what to expect and that there will be penatlies for abandonment or griefing. If they don't like anything he stated, they have other options to acquire a beta key. A game or not, in a competitive event, no one likes it when people leave or make a concerted efforted to ruin the games they are playing.
I feel this game is more enjoyable than LoL, but both have their strategies and play styles. Although similar in some respects, they differ a bit on how to be most effective in each. If you play RTS games, you should pick up the game pretty easily, just need to learn the heroes' abilities, interface, and which items best support your playstyle. Pretty much everyone you play with will have an opinion on what you should do. The best thing is to play bot games to learn the basics first.
Obviously, the team that works together best, will usually win the game. It seems like 90% of the people who play team-oriented games do not realize this.

Do you know how much Starcraft 2 promised with Bnet 2.0? They still haven't implemented most of the features "for the community" and we're two years post release. At launch it had no chat channels, clans, name changes, realm changes, automated tournaments, LAN, replays with friends, resume from replay, customisable hotkeys. And still only TWO of those things have yet to be released. Oh and by the way Starcraft 1 had all of those features.
SO YES THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT BLIZZARD DID.

Most of the features Valve have stated that are keeping it from being released can all be seen in the patch notes being worked on. Also Valve>Blizzard. Just to briefly list them: tutorial system, rest of the heroes, and a game mode for new players which limits their hero pool initially to easy heroes. I would say its still a beta, though if you want to play it now its very easy to get in. I'm sure new players/reviewers etc would looove the game if it was released without tutorials for a game like this... :/. I expect other features to be released after launch such as map making.
Anyway on another note add me if you want an invite for nothing. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198051566343/
I also have 2 keys left, so if someone wants them just add Stefl1504|Cirnolicious on Steam and send me a PM on here or something like that...
Anyway, my current favs are:
Keeper of the Light
Disruptor
Slark
Sven
in that order...

Also using these two references is good Anyways I'm still a noob but I can honestly say you can actually improve and get better in actual public matchmaking matches especially if you play with people who you know are good with the game (and are actually somewhat good in the game), like for an example my friends (I have 3 friends who play DOTA2 everyday) I play with them pretty much everyday and sometimes with Pezus and Shinobi-San here. Also the matchmaking (from what I heard and experienced) pits you against people who have similar level of skill as you but there are a few people who actually use a alternate account to play lower levels due to the fact that their main account might of gotten a higher level and would be fighting against more seasoned players. Anyways...my favorite heroes at the moment are: |
Ah, see I don't have any friends who play DOTA, or LoL for that matter. Plus i'd hate to subject them to my learning if they did exist!
So far my one successful game has been with Weaver. (Of a total of 4 so far, did, ok with sniper as well.) Think i'm going to give Windrunner or Morphling a try next.
A lot of it will just be figuring out last hit timing since character reaction times feel a bit slower compaired to LoL.
From what it feels like, it seems like Dota2 is much more unforgiving to mistakes, because creeps seem to deal more damage, and towers less damage, so unlike LoL, towers are't a get out of free zone.
Although it DOES seem to make farming under your tower easier because you don't hae to worry about the tower stealing as many kills. Making it far more vital that you don't push your lane.
Additionally ganks are easier because the screen is more "Close to the ground" making wards more important.

Got like.. 12? left, PM me if you want one with your Steam name or email address and I'll send it to you.
I have no interest in the game whatsoever :P
