I disagree, I dont think its a sign of financial trouble, I think its smart for them to be investing early on a platform that seems to be quite popular. Pretty sure a decent amount of digital copies are sold of the ports and the flash games. They can be designed for cheap and be sold at the expensive rate they are currently selling the game.
FFTactics War of the Lions - which I was planning to get for my iphone....is like $15 D:.
But I do admit their actions on the console side will and is hurting them but it'll probably be a long time from now (unless they make FFXVI a online game as well and make more sequels) before they start showing signs that THQ did.

I think there's definitely a bit of that mixed in there too. I just think - for example, if you read Wada's comments here, he talks about the knock-on effect of FF XIV's failure on the development of other HD titles. If there are fewer titles being developed on their Japanese side, that's less money they're making (while FF XIV drains even more resources to fix). If they're spending all this money on that game and getting little to nothing in return, they're going to need to prop themselves up somehow - and that's where the iOS games come in.
At least, that's how I saw things.

When you put it that way I guess that can be used as a reason but I still think the market being available and being quite popular is another reason...you can say its like killing two birds with one stone ;p.
But ya ...making FFXIV or even another MMORPG was a big mistake on their part and its a bigger mistake for them to even trying to "Remake/Rebuild" it. They should of just stuck to making games like they did FFX and before (FFXII, FFXIII to a certain extent and FFVII Crisis Core are ok). Its ironic how money/greed can do things to a group/person.

I wouldnt say it was a big mistake. FFXI is their most profitable FF game.
The mistake was them acting like a bunch of arrogant pricks that thought that whatever they would do would turn to gold, ignoring all the evolutions the market has undergone since. In one way ou are right though. If we've been shown something is that P2P model isnt working for anyone except WoW. So, if i were them i would give the game an F2P model as it ships (be it cosmetic shop and sub-option or the prefered B2P). Guess what though? The arrogance is gonna come in again and i doubt they will have anything but the classic P2P model.
I just hope the game is good. At least it looks good from what i see, but they havent shown enough.
