.. then whats all this talk about it being discontinued..

Arm chair self proclaimed experts surfing the internetz with no information or connections with the actual people who make the decisions.

I admit that I also have no info and I do have and love the Vita (see my sig).  With that said, suppose Sony does make money on every Vita sold.  The Vita has to sell, right?  I mean, I can sell apples at a profit but if nobody's buying my apples, is my apple business a success story?

if they are truly selling at a profit I guess they should keep it on the market.  Sony needs the money and they are making a killing on those memory cards.  If they can sell 7 million Vitas this year I will support it fully.  By then the install base will at least be 11 million and maybe it will get some third party support (if MH4 comes out like a rumor suggested it will most likely look better on Vita and hopefully sell a few in Japan along with Soul Sacrifice).

Another tiring doom and gloom thread about the Vita, it's pretty much the PS3 all over again.

You do realize Sony makes money on the vita right?

Why dont you ponder on that on the software side?

whatchatalkingabout? Its the best handheld gaming device I've ever owned and at one point in time I have owned a Nintendo gameboy which was awesome!, a Sega Gamegear which sucked batteries like no ones business, an Atari Lynx which was even more battery hungry than a gamegear, a Nintendo Gameboy advance which rocked, a Nintendo DS, a Sony PSP, a Nintendo 3Ds and various tables and shit.

This is all personal preference of course, but I'm exactly one of the people specifically targeted by the PSP and now the PS Vita. And by that, I mean gamers who wished that they can take their homeconsole gaming experience with them where ever they go, and it has been great!.

That's what I think the Vita does poorly: console games. You just end up with gimped versions of existing console games that way, as the Vita lacks both the power and space to pull off the best the 360 and PS3 can achieve. Something built from the ground up is much better for the system. We need more original and interesting titles such as Gravity Rush.

You mean how the vita has a higher SW to HW ratio than the 3ds?

The Vita is Awesome Sauce incarnate. The broad consumer base might not realize it but it is the best. Sony is not truly losing any money on Vita, only MAKING IT. Even if sales are slow, they are still sales at a good profit from each for them. It will take time to dent that market, as NIN has dominated it unabided for decades now. Yet, if no one ever challenges them...of course they can't b defeated. Sony is about the only company who could in this venue.

People frequently also say similar things for the PSP. Does anyone realize the only things making Sony profit for a few years were PS2 and PSP sales? PSP helped sony out a lot. Just cuz it didn't sell DS numbers doesn't make it a failure.

Mostly due to people buying the Vita proclaim themselves "hardcore" and buy a lot of SW or have the $$ to burn (I mean come on they bought the Vita)
3DS is more mass market and many may buy 3DS just to play a few games. It's like how Wii has a lower SW attach ratio than the HD twins.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Thats number twisting. I can make my own portable and sell it to 5 people, each with X titles available to it and i have a better attach rate on my 5 unit total sales than the 3DS.

Lets talk money here, cause thats what companies work on.

Resources pooled making a Vita game and returns VS doing that same game for the PS3/PS4. Chances are the software sales and therefore the profit made will be significantly better on the PS3/PS4 (probably PS4, not 100% sure yet ofc).

Investment and return. They arent losing money, but the system is hardly a sucess because it doesnt generate good ammounts of money either.

At the end of the day, thats what matter for 3rd parties aswell.

Feel free to ignore the facts, but the point the OP is making is sound. Personally i woudl like to see more games coming to the Vita, but it doesnt mean that there isnt reasoning to this analysis.

@betacon

That doesn't say much when there are 27m 3DS owners and 4m Vita owners.
