Vita is a great bit of gear, I love it.

I think the biggest problem is that PS Vita used a 3rd Party CPU, which isn't as powerful and cost a lot more in manufacturing, plus the Capacitive Touch Screen is so much less accurate & less precise and cost more money then Resistive.
The 3DS has a 1st Party CPU, which is so much more powerful then they would have had if they did the DS thing by using a 3rd Party CPU and it cost quite a bit less, plus the Resistive Touch Screen is much more accurate & precise for dedicated gaming and cost so much less money, and also the 3DS gets an additional 15.3 Million Polygons from its GPU (PICA200) to add to its CPU production of Polygons.
I think you guys have to see things from the 3rd Party Devs point of view. If they both give about the same looking graphics for what each is capable of, then you have to look at everything else they can do.
Plus the 3DS was already doing 60 fps & motion gaming with DLC capabilities and advance online network capabilities since long before the PS Vita was release.
Plus the 3DS refresh rate is 180 VS. the PS Vita refresh rate of 60.
And they both do Standard-Definition games on a Standard-Definition Scrren, except the 3DS also does Glasses-Free 3D.
And when it comes to Augmented Reality, well only the 3DS offers something different from Smartphones in AR, which is 3D AR.
The PS Vita seem to much on relying on throwing in extra features, like they did for the PSP, now that I look back on it.
Plus the 3DS also has StreetPass.
And the 3DS has duo screens VS. the PS Vita 1 screen gaming.
Altogether it seems Sony was hoping to use the ability to create hype for adding anything to sell the PS Vita and get 3rd Party Support.
Both Handhelds have 4 GB & 8 GB cartridges, but the 3DS also has 2 GB option to sell as low as $15 at retail.
The PS Vita was going to also have a 2 GB option for cartridges, but they later on got rid of it.......I believe to give the appearance of better game storage, when in reality both their max is the same.
Altogether the PS Vita seem to have done all the samethings wrong as the PSP, except at least the PSP was their 1st Generation Handheld which gave the unfamiliarity needed for 3rd Party Devs to make more games for the PSP then they normally would have. The PS Vita didn't have that advantage because it was the successor to the PSP.
So it seem guaranteed to be doomed before Sonynever worked on the PSP successor.
Here's a comparison video that shows that the 3DS has near 360 graphics to help you guys & gals further understand why 3rd Party Devs rather make games for the 3DS, because both handhelds got extremely similar graphics that both come this close to the 360:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aVETRohXnrg
The 360/PS3 version pops up later during the video to be compared to both the 3DS & Wii version.
The best part I believe, is when Spider-Man (2099) goes up the elevator and there are a bunch of skyscrapers in the background.........because that should give you an idea of the difference in Polygon Count there is between the 360 & 3DS. FYI the GameCube had more then 20 million Polygons back in its day, so the Wii version of this 2011 game probably has 35 to 75 million Polygons if I had to guess.

You seem to imply that the 3DS is more powerful than the Vita, which we all know is not true. Rather, its the other way around. Also, Vita has upto 544p resolution for games and 720p for videos, both of which are far above the 3DS' 240p for games. Also, Vita can do textures, lighting, animations, anti-aliasing and better AI much better than the 3DS. Its processors and RAM are far more powerful than the 3DS.

Regardless, Sony shouldn't have made the PSP in my opinion, let alone the Vita. But while it's here, I plan on enjoying it. I've already played 4 games I've loved which I feel is enough to justify my purchase, so anything after that is just great. |
As much I hate to say about the PSP, but yeah, Sony shouldn't have made the PSP, let alone the PS Vita.
I thought I was going to Love the PSP more then the DS, but ended up only loving the DS.
But the GameCube had clearly more better graphics then the PS2 and I loved the PS2 more.
And also the GameCube did 60 fps, while the PS2 & Xbox only did 30 fps, but the PS2 was easily my favorite console of that Generation.
The Wii & PS3 are serious let downs to me personally, I love the WiiMote idea because it was something I wanted in gaming since the PS2/GCN Generation started in like 2001. But the Wii and also PS3 just didn't have a good enough library of games for me to care about the Consoles.
I hope the Wii U & PS4 get their shit together, it seems by looking at the Wii U Library, that they already are. Now where's the PS4 going to make an appearance. It looks like I can hold my head up these days now when I talk about Home Consoles.
NO.
I'm just saying that the PS Vita power isn't that much above the 3DS.
Which explains Monster Hunter 4 & the 3 Resident Evil 3DS exclusives & King of Pirates & Batman 3DS & Persona 3DS & Dragonball 3DS & many more:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_games
The PS Vita has more power, but the gap seems too small for 3rd Party Devs to make anything for its 2D Standard-Definition VS. the 3DS Glasses-Free 3D Standard-Definition.
Maybe if you compare graphics of such games as Kid Icarus: Uprising & Resident Evil: Revelation to Uncharted: Golden Abyss & a 3rd Party PS Vita game.
I dunno, but one thing is for sure, the 3rd Parties have no reason and/or motivation to give the PS Vita any real support.
FYI the 128 MB FCRAM is probably 12 MB more powerful then the 512 MB DRAM.
Plus the 3DS displays 3 different video images at once, while the PS Vita only displays 1 video image........so of course the 3DS GPU is clearly clocked at a much more higher speed then the PS Vita GPU.
This isn't the same as when the PSP with against the DS in specs. I mean the PSP crushed the DS in specs across the board. But the 3DS vs. PS Vita doesn't have that much gap.
And for lighting and so fort in the 3DS games, well "Heroes of Ruin" shows those capabilities off.
I bought the vita and it is an impressive bit of kit, i have recently sold it to my best mate as i didnt really play it as much as id have liked to, the only way id not wan't it to have been released is if it lost Sony money, does anyone know if it was profitable on launch or not?

Each PS Vita sold at a lost and probably still does. (both models)
But its the Software that always profits.
It seems after Soul Sacrifice, that the PS Vita might not have anymore big sellers for the system. (just several more months til, I believe)
As a Sony hater, I love my Vita. The only problem I have with it is that the online is janky with some of the games I've played. It's an awesome device and I'm glad they made it.
And leave the 3DS out of this. It's awesome, too. Gameboy defeated portable consoles that could actually play the exact same games as the current home consoles (not ports--the actual media that worked on the home consoles of the day) because it catered to the strengths of a portable console. Vita's power is irrelevant.
I love mine and play it every day, I have barely touched my 360 since getting it so I couldn't be happier they made it :)
