I think the biggest problem is that PS Vita used a 3rd Party CPU, which isn't as powerful and cost a lot more in manufacturing, plus the Capacitive Touch Screen is so much less accurate & less precise and cost more money then Resistive.
The 3DS has a 1st Party CPU, which is so much more powerful then they would have had if they did the DS thing by using a 3rd Party CPU and it cost quite a bit less, plus the Resistive Touch Screen is much more accurate & precise for dedicated gaming and cost so much less money, and also the 3DS gets an additional 15.3 Million Polygons from its GPU (PICA200) to add to its CPU production of Polygons.
I think you guys have to see things from the 3rd Party Devs point of view. If they both give about the same looking graphics for what each is capable of, then you have to look at everything else they can do.
Plus the 3DS was already doing 60 fps & motion gaming with DLC capabilities and advance online network capabilities since long before the PS Vita was release.
Plus the 3DS refresh rate is 180 VS. the PS Vita refresh rate of 60.
And they both do Standard-Definition games on a Standard-Definition Scrren, except the 3DS also does Glasses-Free 3D.
And when it comes to Augmented Reality, well only the 3DS offers something different from Smartphones in AR, which is 3D AR.
The PS Vita seem to much on relying on throwing in extra features, like they did for the PSP, now that I look back on it.
Plus the 3DS also has StreetPass.
And the 3DS has duo screens VS. the PS Vita 1 screen gaming.
Altogether it seems Sony was hoping to use the ability to create hype for adding anything to sell the PS Vita and get 3rd Party Support.
Both Handhelds have 4 GB & 8 GB cartridges, but the 3DS also has 2 GB option to sell as low as $15 at retail.
The PS Vita was going to also have a 2 GB option for cartridges, but they later on got rid of it.......I believe to give the appearance of better game storage, when in reality both their max is the same.
Altogether the PS Vita seem to have done all the samethings wrong as the PSP, except at least the PSP was their 1st Generation Handheld which gave the unfamiliarity needed for 3rd Party Devs to make more games for the PSP then they normally would have. The PS Vita didn't have that advantage because it was the successor to the PSP.
So it seem guaranteed to be doomed before Sonynever worked on the PSP successor.
Here's a comparison video that shows that the 3DS has near 360 graphics to help you guys & gals further understand why 3rd Party Devs rather make games for the 3DS, because both handhelds got extremely similar graphics that both come this close to the 360:

The 360/PS3 version pops up later during the video to be compared to both the 3DS & Wii version.
The best part I believe, is when Spider-Man (2099) goes up the elevator and there are a bunch of skyscrapers in the background.........because that should give you an idea of the difference in Polygon Count there is between the 360 & 3DS. FYI the GameCube had more then 20 million Polygons back in its day, so the Wii version of this 2011 game probably has 35 to 75 million Polygons if I had to guess.
