Forums - Gaming - Any RTS games for MacBook?

I'm looking for a decent to good RTS for my MacBook. I have the regular $1099 notebook with Mac OS X Leopard. It doesn't have to be anything stellar like Age of Empires was back in the day, just something decent. I heard Spore is coming, but I want something now.

If you have an intel mac you have a ton of options to my knowledge. Head to the mac game store online, but I am pretty sure C&C3 and AOE4 is for intel Macs. I know as well the Warcraft 3 and Starcraft are compatible. Starcraft 2 is around the corner and thats what you want to get.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Ugh, no way will that MacBook run Starcraft 2, C&C3, or AoE4. Remember that it has a 64MB integrated Intel GPU.

Your best bet is to install Windows on the machine and run some of the older games. It should run 3 year old RTS games with no troubles.

I'm not sure if it matters, but the box says it has an Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144mb of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory. I have 1GB (two 512mb SO-DIMMs) of DDR2 SDRAM. 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

I don't know what half of it means. I'm just a casual gamer.  >_<

Ah, they must have updated the GPU then. I have an older MacBook with 64MB.

That will help, but not much. It basically means you have a weak 128MB video card. Enough to run some older games but don't expect anything within the past 24 months to run worth a damn.

The X3100 is much better then what intel used to offer for integrated graphics (in terms of gaming performance). They basically went from "2 generations behind" to "1 generation behind".

Food,

I don't know what you can buy (I'm really only playing flash games like Desktop Tower Defense on a computer), but you should really get extra RAM. Buy it from NewEgg. The MacBook RAM is user replacable. Just take out the battery and remove 3 screws to get to the RAM compartment.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

Ok. The game you want is Myth 2. Myth one works also though. The games aren't graphic showcases but they're absolutely fantastic. They're more RTT (real time tactics) in the sense that you don't farm or build units, but you control every aspect of the units your given. And EVERYTHING MATTERS! The formation your troops are in are a major part. If your archers have the high ground their arrows fly farther. In fact, you actually watch the arrows arc through the air in an awesome way.

And don't even get me started on the bomb throwing dwarves! Really all ou need to know is that both games were widely considered the best RTS's of the year when they came out and they still hold up today. From one mac user to the next. GET THEM!

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I might end up adding some more ram within the next 2 years or so, so I'll definitely be checking that out.

I'm not looking for any recent RTS games, really. I'm looking for some that are compatible with OS X that may have come out about 3-5 years ago. Just something to kill time when I'm away from my console.

I'm looking for something along the lines of Machines from Acclaim. It came out for Windows 95 years ago. I know I won't be able to play that--it didn't even work with Windows XP. :(

Until then, I guess I'll be checking out Pixel Monsters for the PS3 tomorrow.

Thx, I'll be checking that out.
