Using VGC's year end number I estimated and extended another year to the NPD chart (Adding Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 last year estimates.)  (I assume the real NPD data will be released in May of this year, but I didn't want to wait.)

For curiosity sake, I also added Kinect - as if it was its own console.  It had a great first two years (only exceeded by the Wii and PS2), but has fallen in the third.

You can see all consoles down this last year. With the Wii having the biggest drop, the X360 second, and the PS3 with the lowest drop.

Scary thought, by years end, more kinects will have sold then Gamecubes!

Yes, is shows that Kinects have fallen:

2010 - 4.2 Million (launch year)

2011 - 5.1 Million

2012 -  3.0 Million

If I remember right it's about 50% attach rate for new Xbox 360 sales.  Which is quite a feat on its own. 

Yes, looks like Kinect is within 200,000 units from passing Game Cube by the end of the year!

If their is a significant price drop - I could see Kinect selling better than the original Xbox by the end of the year.   But then if new hardward is realeased, it will proably take till next year.  But just as Xbox 360 is about to pass the Wii in the Uk, it looks like it is going to happen.

I added the WiiU's USA number. It's just a little dash as it just started selling, but takes on it's own perspective.

Kinect is bundled about 50% of the time.  And according to Microsoft is being treated like a new console. 

So, you point is what?

According to MS. If Kinect was a separate consoloe it would have one of the worste software support ever, and it would be even less a console, in gamers eyes, then the iOS platform

Lets dont fool ourselves, the Kinectr is a great success story, but it wouldent stand a chance as a standalone console, without the 360.
