Nintendo cover the main markets in Europe. The markets in Europe that sell the most units. If the 360 is over or undertracked in Europe, they will show it.
There is nothing wrong with waiting for more complete data.

I repeat, how does this help us establish accurate sales outside of Europe, US and Japan? Ninty will tell us Europe, we know US and we know Japan. Away from these markets is where the discrepancy will most likely be.

I said earlier in the thread. Say the 360 is 600k undertracked.
We lump it all into the emerging markets. Cool. 360 is accurate. Short while later, Nintendo show that its undertracked in Europe by 300k. Then what?
Wait for Nintendo. See how the numbers are in the tracked markets... THEN we can more accurately say where the 360's are

Agreed, I see no problem with waiting for Nintendo data before adjustments start. It also stops the complaints we had last year when we had small adjustments post Microsoft financials which we all knew would be adjusted again later when the Nintendo data arrived. That being said I don't mind us making adjustments now if ioi is sure about what needs changing.

No the predictions were estimates and they were never declared correct by Sony so it's pretty certain the PS3 didn't outship the 360 yet. Saying the PS3 is undertracked or overtracked right now is just guessing as you have no evidence until we get shipment figures from Sony. It's highly unlikely the PS3 shipments to increase YOY though, even if they channel stuffed. The only thing this does prove is we are undertracking the 360 at the moment, obviously the exact amount is up for debate but it's somewhere between 300k - 1 million. |
What do you mean? they were basically 100% correct with microsofts shipments, why wouldn't they be with sony's shipments
And why would sony reveal their figures early?

Maybe because their predicted Sony shipments were riiculous to start with while the 360 shipment was reasonable. I'll happily bet with you that their figures are wrong if you put such faith in them.
I have a feeling that Xbox 360 is undertracked and PS3 is overtracked. So PS3 lead in 2012 will be almost insignificant or can be considered a tie (statiscally).
But in other hand, there are people talking that PS3 outshipped Xbox 360 in total numbers.

Ok it's a bet
I'm just saying, they predicted microsofts shipments right, so why would they be wrong with sony's shipments? :)

We just need to agree what shipment figure they had for Sony so there is a distinct cut off

They had the PS3 at 77m at the end of december, although that number was rounded up, just like microsofts numbers
So anywhere between 76.8m-77m should be about it :)
Is this what analysts expected for the quarter? Stocks dipped a bit. How you can be unsatisfied with a $6 billion quarterly profit is beyond me.
No surface numbers is upsetting.
