We're all seeing how the Wii U is struggling right now - and that's even with a 2D Mario releasing with the console. Since this is one of Nintendos best selling franchises ever it's quite a surprise that Wii U is selling so poorly. Or is it? Is a 2D Mario the best possible launch title of a new Nintendo console?

This got me thinking about what launch titles each console NEEDS at the very get go - whether it's Nintendo or Sony or Microsoft.

What titles SHOULD Wii U have had?
I guess Nintendo should have had a 3D Mario, a Zelda, a Mario Kart or a Supper Smash Bros ready for launch since 2D Mario isn't really cutting it.

What launch titles WILL PS4 need to sell well?
And as for PS4, Sony would probably do well to launch that system with a new GT, a new Uncharted or a new GoW, and it looks as if only Uncharted is a probability for the PS4 launch right now...

What launch title WILL Xbox720 need to sell well?
And the x3ox should have a Halo or a GeoW, and perhaps to a lesser degree, a Fable/Forza game at launch - but I don't see ANY of those games making it to the launch...

I'm talking about 1st party games, NOT 3rd party support - unless it's an exclusive.

My thinking is that any new system needs a game that shows off what the system is capable of. For The Wii it was Wii Sports; it didn't have better graphics compared to the gen before, but it showed a NEW way to play.

So, to sum it all up; REALISTICALLY, what games should PS720 launch with, and what games would have done better than 2D Mario on the Wii U?? 

Wii U:

• 3D Mario (a 2D Mario was already released recently for the 3DS)
• Wii U Sports
• Wii U Play

For some reason, Nintendo decided to release the Wii U without Wii games. I will never understand why they would do that.

Xbox 3:

• Kinect Sports season 3
• Kinect Adventures! 2
• Either Halo, Gears or Forza.

Kinect 2 need the extra attention. Other than that and one first party title, third party titles should be sufficient. People know what to expect from the console and won't need to be convinced. The price would be the major deciding factor.

Playstation 4:

• Uncharted 4
• New IP
• Any other first party title. GT or LBP for example.

The high amount of first party titles should be enough for many to consider buying the PS4, even at a slightly higher price than Xbox 3. Especially if the online remains free while Xbox Live remains a paid service. Also, as far as we know the new IP might become a new Uncharted, in terms of and sales and quality. (Strangely enough, Sony seems to be the only one willing to make such bets.)

Nintendo should have released a first party game that better utilized the gamepad, that was not

1. a 2d mario
2. a mario party clone (which is declining in popularity)

I am almost sure any of there games would have worked. Also by this time in the gamecube game cycle, super smash brother melee was out which did not help the gamecube sales overall, but gave a boost to overall launch numbers

Nintendo should've really launched with Pikmin and 101 as promised instead of holding back to prevent pissing off 3rd party devs. They should've also gotten their Day 1 update fiasco dealt with and not left us with a blank Q1. Seriously waiting on that WindWaker HD ambassadors Nintendo.

(Also release GC VC already I have 50$ to ready to shell out for some of those games.)

720 and PS4 SHOULD launch with MW4 unavailable on PS3 and 360, but that will never happen, and gears is looking to go multi platform.

PS4 gets Versus 13 or Last guardian, possibly Uncharted 4

I honestly don't know what else 720 can launch with, as far as I know Halo is their only 1st pary game.

Yeah, why there isn't any Wii Sports game for the Wii U is... surprising indeed! I guess Nintendo really really wants this console to be a "hardcore" console... Which is a fail if they don't give it enough of power compared to PS720 :p

So I guess x3ox will launch with a Forza game then, since we saw Halo this Fall and we'll be seeing Gears this Spring...

Uncharted and LBP actually seems to be a pretty good combo, especially if the new IP is The Last Guardian...

I don't really see Pikmin as a system seller though... The whole series have sold like 3m combined... It's not a big franchise and won't push systems like a new Zelda... But I agree 100% with the rest of your statement!!

Yeah, but how PROBABLE is it that that game will make it to launch? We'll probably see another "prologue" before the real deal...
