Japan and China are not going to go to war with each other. It's all talk.

And people are vastly overestimating China's military capacity. Despite what earlier posts said, neither of these two nations are superpowers militarily. China has immense personnel at its disposal, but is pretty far behind in terms of military technology.

The biggest reason they won't go to war is that it wouldn't be economically viable for either nation to do so.

Sorry don't mean any disrespect but the thinking of China being technologically backward is just typical ignorant western thinking.(which will cost us a lot when we get into conflict with them)  Most of their fighters are modified/improved 4th and 4.5 generation derived flankers/Migs from Russia, capable of BVR weapons,  fire and forget missles (the Japanese F15's have to think about whether they want to lock their target or avoid an incoming rocket that the J11's and J10's are capable of firing and avoiding at the same time), and stealth technology derieved from the F22 through espionage.  They are a dangerous threat!!!

China isn't a threat to the west militarily. First of all their military /is/ quite backwards when compared to the US, Russia, and European nations. Why would they attack someone who buys all their stuff in any case?

Also look at China's history. They aren't exactly a nation that is known to expand when given the chance. Back in the 15th century China had the capacity to control the entire Indian ocean, but they didn't. In any case, this is a dispute between China and Japan, and it's nothing more than a war of words. The most it'll escalate to is more words and military exercises to 'flex their muscles.'

This also isn't a new issue. They've been at each other for a long time over those islands, just now it's getting media attention so everyone's suddenly become an expert in Sino-Japanese relations. Being blown /way/ out of proportion.

The moment this happens kiss your loved ones goodbye because were all dead.

The moment WW3 starts the human race ends. And all over a couple specks of land. Really shows just how pathetic we all are.

I want their military to be crushed, their government humiliated and that their officials recognize the chinese superiority in the region

That's quite demented. But whatever.

After what they did to the Chinese and the rest of eastern asia...Japan got off insanely easy. It's disgusting

Get all the major cities carpet-bombed, the capital fire-bombed, two cities nuked, then occupied for 7 years?

On topic: it's unlikely to happen. The Chinese and Japanese economies are too entertwined: the Chinese do a lot of exporting to Japan and the Japanese do a lot of investment in China and rely on Chinese imports.

They'll play their brinksmanship game, but nothing will come of it in the end.

Now Colombia and Nicaragua, they're very likely to go to war this year. Ditto Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Anyone else read that Japan and China are going to war in that article?

oh...but man those video games.

China never forgot the "The Rape of Nanking". All of Asia want a piece of Japan after World War II, just China got the balls and power to do something about it.

It's funny how everyone are pro-Japanese but don't really understand the relationship between Asia vs Japan. Japan never admit their wrong doing in World War II until recently. It took them 60+ years until someone in power to apologize about the "The Rape of Nanking".

As far as I know there wasn't something like "The Rape of Nanking" in Latin America, but the United States have done things just as bad in Latin America as Japan with Asia.

It took Japan 60 years to apologize, you say? I don't think that's worse than convincing the whole world that they didn't do shit :) (goes without saying that the US haven't apologized and probably never will).

Just like there's some extreme Japanese people who justify some of Japan's past actions, there's some US people who justify the US actions. How does this happen is beyond my understanding, how can someone thing such things are 'right', but I'll leave that to some psychologists in the future.

You cannot condemn Japan for it's past actions without condemning the US as well. I just want to get rid of everyone in this argument that want bad things to happen to Japan, because they would have to want the same things to happen to the USA and with that, I want to get rid of anyone that want bad things to happen to any country.

Will not happen. Too much to lose, not much to gain.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

FU Japan. Dokdo belongs to Korea.

I sympathize with the Chinese on this, but some of the public reaction was a little uncalled for. They shouldn't go to war though. Resolving it with politics would be the best for all of us.

whats so important about these islands?

They also heavily limit China's access to the Pacific Ocean, as if they were Japanese territory, China would have to go south to access the Ocean, and there you find Taiwan. More to the south is already too crowded, and it's better to have direct access than to have to take detours and/or ask someone else permission for transit.

I don't know why are people here assuming that the islands are Japanese. I don't know to who they actually belong to, but I cannot confirm that they're Japanese.

What country are you from?

I don't think it's totally insensitive to mention videogames when speaking about these types of topics.
This is, after all, a videogame focused website and if people can talk about economy without getting frowned upon, so should people talking about videogames.

Now on the topic of the war itself, I really hope it doesn't come to that.

I'm not entirely familiar with the topic, but the repercussion of an armed conflict could be catastrophic worldwide, and the reward for either nation is not worth the hassle.
