if i compare this weeks to last weeks numbers and do the same with last years numbers (last year in brackets):

DS -40% (last year -37%)

PSP -68% (-63%)

Xbox 360 -41% (-33%)

PS3 -53% (-47%)

Wii -47% (-52%)

3DS -54% (-49%)

PSV -62% (-57%)

Wii U -57% (not out)

Looks like a straight application of the same algorithm from last year, despite older hardware apparently tending to lesser spikes and somewhat different market conditions. Numbers should be low... but not that much! Mark my words, we'll see some adjustments.

Hmm...

Glass half empty: Wii U sales are weak, and deservedly so. Barely any of the general consumers are aware of existence nor is there general sense of excitement in the public about its release. Nintendo isn't coming out with any system sellers until November the earliest like true stubborn fools (I can bet you $100 it is a 3D Mario game... AGAIN).

Glass half full: Every unit of Wii U that sells builds its lead against the PS4/720. Vita never got a price cut despite its abysmal sales thus far, and Wii U does not need one either. 3DS will cause the supernovas in the outer regions of the universe once Pokemon X&Y release.

I don't know about you guys, but now I need a drink.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I cannot figure out Vita sales in Japan for the life of me. I thought it was starting to do alright, especially after last week's jump over 30k for no apparent reason. Why is it back down to 7k all of a sudden??

Are you guys kidding? Cut $100 off of Wii U after two months? With its killer software not yet released? With its principal rivals not yet released? It's really hard to take you seriously with such statements.

I feel the same way about your statement, it launched with nintendo biggest and best selling franshise and its doing numers like a system that's breathing its last breath, lets not mention blops 2, and AC3  ehich wether you like to believe it or not is killer software.

Anyone who thinks AC3 or BO2 are system sellers is out of their minds. You are talking like a 2D Mario game is the only thing that will make the system sell...

Well THEY ARE, at least on PS3/360.

System seller FOR the Wii U, for the same reason you stayed, most people already have the game for the 360, PS3 or PC.

Why aren't these games system sellers for the Wii U?

Because they are ports of games that have been already release before the Wii U, with an install base of 70m more units.

Black Ops 2 basically came out like 1 week later than PS3/360....why wasn't it able to sell well? It was the best selling game on PS3 and 360 last year. What went wrong with the Wii U version?

we know the sales (if true) are terrible for the Wii U, but seriously, COD coming out later hurts Nintendo anyway you slice it.  Launch parties generate hype and buzz.  COD is well established on 360 and PS3, install base is huge, and most people would not buy a new console just to play COD that is essentially the same.  The majority of the people buying COD are people who don't have a 360 or a PS3, assumingly.  Now, if the game was built from the ground up with an obvious graphics upgrade over the MS and Sony version then you would have a viable argument and Nintendo fans would have less of a platform to stand on.

I don't really care about the Wii U, bıt if the Wii U numbers are correct ( I doubt it) then it spells doom for the new XBOX and PS.

Nope. Wii U sales aren't any indication at all for PS4 or NextBox sales.

I am actually kinda on the fence about this.  I think it is possible that it could show some type of indication towards console sales in the future.  I could be totally wrong, but I won't be surprised if this gen shrinks considerably.

Overwhelming support for the PSP makes the Vita useless (no backwards compatibility? fk that). Also, Japanese kids just spent $$ last week due to new years cash. (Still think 30k might be overtracking it though.)

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Apparantly the first week of January is still a holiday in Japan...anyway don't trust VgChartz Japan numbers. Wait for Media Create or Famitsu on Wenesday.

I think the mainstream isn't really excited about it becuase it is essentially a cheap iPad, and with the introduction of the iPad mini it is now actually going head to head with consoles.

Vita and WiiU are Hawk and Animal - The Legion of Doom.

I don't necessarily think WiiU should or will get a price cut just yet, but it is clear that its current price is, I think, a bit of an obstical to customers. Perhaps especially the customers that love NSMBU, the current must-have game. Passionate gamers tend to want something a little more visually stunning on a $350 machine or at least something very innovative and fresh like WiiSports was.

Slow sales aren't a huge deal because I think the system is one that needs hands-on and word of mouth. That will come in time. It makes the year head start on competition very important to build some buzz. It definitely needs buzz and better marketing. Not enough people know what it is.

Nintendo can be patient and wait for later in the year for big moves. Marketing, impressive 1st party titles, possibly a price drop, these things can come later when Sony and MS competition arrives. But there is no question that current sales levels are not good enough this week, and if it continues there are concerns.

I couldn't agree more.  When they announced the price I was a bit shocked, although I bought one.  I thought they priced it too high. I was expecting 249.99 basic unit and a 299.99 premium model.  I would of never guessed Nintendo to launch a 349.99 unit.  It seems un Nintendo like.  Their consoles usually have an attractive launch price.  That being said, all the other points you made I think are spot on.  Nintendo just needs to make sure they keep key 3rd party support going into the next gen and release fantastic 1st party titles.
