suddenly, everyone knows the future

I think 35 million is more realistic. its not about knowing the future, system just launched with a main line mario game and is doing vita numers in us and europe.
50 million would still make it the 3rd best selling Nintendo console ever...and only 12 million behind 2nd place...not that farfetch'd really.
I'd think it'll do a little better than that though, personally. Considering this generation's "loser" the PS3 is at 72 million and currently the best selling home console on a weekly basis...I gotta think the Wii U even if it's a failure could do 50-60 million safely...maybe 70m optimistically (but quite optimistically).

Truth is nobody knows. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Sony came out and said Vita was at the low end of "expectations".
I agree. It doesn't have the casual appeal to reach Wii levels, and it doesn't have the core appeal to reach PS3/360 levels. But it does have more appeal than the Gamecube IMO so it should definitely sell a healthy amount for a 3rd place console.

I could write a computer program that is as effective as Pacter with hardware predictions: If( company == Sony) { Predict great sales } else if( company == Microsoft) { Predict good sales } else if ( company == Nintendo ) { Predict mediocre or bad sales } else { Predict sales better than Nintendo } |
I think you pretty much nailed it. After all, it's pretty evident that Pachter is no Learning Machine.

?! who says it'll be 3rd place, we have no idea what Sony and MS are going to unveil at e3. It may very well be, but we don't know.
Opposite things happen when this guy opens his mouth, so WiiU will sell 20-25m?

"it feels like a DS to me", the best selling console of all time.
I fucking hate you Pachter, i fucking hate you.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
