Far too many companies on that list with really only one or two claims to so called fame *cough* for example Santa Monica & Quantic Dream.

Theres a REASON why i will always respect SEGA, Capcom & Nintendo...... those 3 companies combined have pretty much made more games than the top 20 in that list combined. (hell maybe even more games combined than the top 30 or 40 having looked over the list again)

A fair few Sonic games= LEGENDARY.

Shenmue 1&2= BEYOND LEGENDARY.

2D Shinobi's= LEGENDARY.

Virtua Tennis= LEGENDARY.

SEGA Rally Championship & SEGA Rally 2= LEGENDARY.

Virtua Fighter= LEGENDARY.

and many MANY more games......... i'm in despair.

You realise the games in that list span 4-5 studios right?

Sega rally was made by a UK studio that is now owned by Codemasters which is on the list.

Sega AM2 made the Virtua games and Shenmu.

Team Shinobi/Sega WoW/AM1 made Shinobi etc.

And they don't really fit on a list that is looking at current and future rather who made great games 15-20 years ago and have since lost most of the key staff.

Shows how much you know about SEGA......... i clearly mentioned SEGA Rally Championship & Sega Rally 2 (made by SEGA's legendary AM divisions) i'm not referring to the ABOMINATION that was SEGA Rally Revo & that crappy SEGA Rally XBLA/PSN game. (those were made by SEGA Racing Studio based in the UK)

You have lots to learn about SEGA's AM divisions.

One hit wonders everywhere...... *spits*

ooh, i love god of tedium press the same button repeatedly war...... Santa Monica are like the best ever (pukes)

I love heavy rain with its clunky controls & Shenmue wannabe elements (pukes some more)

Hey......... sorry for the rant........... but it's VGC's members failure to even ACKNOWLEDGE SEGA that gets me riled up.

At least Neogaf members for the most part show respect.

A little bizarre inconsistancy... Mojang makes the #2 spot with ONE GAME, beating Nintendo, probably THE most celebrated software developer in history. When top X video game lists are compiled, Nintendo often holds more spots than any two other developers combined, and usually has at least three games in the top 10 alone.

So I ask you, if Mojang can make ONE great game and wind up in the number 2 spot, beating perhaps the most important developer of the past 30 years... WHERE THE HELL IS NICALIS??

Yes, by putting a developer founded under 4 years ago that has made a single game in the #2 spot, Edge has forced me to turn this into a direct 1-on-1 between Minecraft and Cave Story.

No Nihilistic Software?!

Edge fails at making lists...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I'm sorry, this list is an absolute mess.  Quite a few pretentious choices as I would expect from Edge, really.  They should have named it "Here's a list of some really good developers mixed in with developers who made good games in 2012 which means they are BEST EVER.  Also, we forgot loads of studios lol".

I wouldn't put Valve at #1 myself, but I don't have a huge problem with it.  Mojang at #2 though, seriously?  Minecraft is an awesome game, helping to define a generation, sold loads etc. etc.   I have no problem with that.  Nintendo EAD have developed multiple games which are awesome, helped to define generations and sold loads.

In fact, there's multiple studios in this list that I think are just riding "current" hype rather than being among the best developers.  Mojang, Arkane, Riot, ArenaNet, Rocksteady, Thatgamecompany, 343i, Telltale, Playdead etc. are all far, far too high on this list.  Fucking Playdead?  Seriously?  That genuinely makes me angry.

Other thoughts:

  • Media Molecule are too high.  I love them to absolute pieces, but give them a chance to prove that they're more than just a LBP machine before putting them so high.
  • Naughty Dog should be higher than Platinum Games.  Rockstar North should be higher than both of them.
  • Bioware, Bethseda, Kojima are far too low.  Kojima especially.  You can bet if it were 2013 and Ground Zeroes just released they'd be damn higher up this list.
  • Sony Online Entertainment too low.  As are Blizzard.  Both of them have done so much more in MMO circles than Riot Games or ArenaNet, and both Blizzard & SOE have made fantastic offline games as well.
  • Ninja Theory.  I love Heavenly Sword, but no.  Shouldn't be here, and certainly shouldn't be ahead of Santa Monica.
The biggest surprise for me is the omissions though.  No Squaresoft, Enix or Square-Enix (what the fuck).  No Rare.  No Retro Studios.  No Psygnosis.  No Insomniac Games.  No Japan Studio.  None of Namco's teams.  And the most glaring omissions of all: NO BULLFROG OR MAXIS.  Ugh, thanks Edge.  I'M GONNA GO AWAY AND BE ANGRY NOW AND YOUR RIDICULOUS & PRETENTIOUS LIST.
