PS3 was surrounded by doom because of the amount of money it was set to lose. Kutaragi likely truly believed PS3 had disrupted MS by (eventully) being a cheap alternative to PC. When look back at the 80's with C64 and similar computers, there's really no reason seeing it from not happening.

There's another company that have been trying to have Sonys ass handed to them for the last decade or so, and with the introduction of tablets, Sonys road as a PC replacement closed. Whereas Ipod answered the challenge to Walkman, Ipad was made to challenge the PS3 (if you want to see where Apple is heading next, you should look what Sony does, however, Hirai is much more dangerous opponent for Apple than anyone at Sony before him).

Im sure with enough Internet digging we would also come across some pre-launch doom articles about the Wii and 360.

And this looks like extreme damage control considering the PS3 has just now shown a pathetic decline in December and the prospects for Sony's handhelds/consoles in general don't look very rosy at all.

Really, guys, it's useless arrogance like this that makes dozens of people like me enjoy stuffing it down Sony fans' throats when Sony's platforms die a slow, agonizing death. :P Just saying.

This thread is a product of comments like this, you're just adding fuel to the flame. Expect another thread like this in 5 years time with the PS Vita, where you'll probably attack SONY fans and whatever next gen console they bring out then.

I genuinely appreciate your concern, but I'm not having a meltdown at all; I'm having a blast! NPD comes out and MS/Sony are enormously overtracked while Nintendo (or at least 3DS) is undertracked. You think I've been better recently, ;)?

Anyway, you're right in principle, but you've got the causality wrong. This thread isn't a product of comments like this. Comments like mine are a product of threads like these. If Sony fans stopped being so arrogant every time they get the chance, people wouldn't ridicule them when Vita crashes and burns, for example.

The best way to defend is to shut up and take the bad news, rather than gloating for no good reason. Attacking will only cause retaliation, which is the reason you guys are in this mess in the first place. ;P

So you're getting off over undertracked 3DS sales and undertracked PS360 sales? Says it all really.

This is slowly becoming a game of "he started it!". You can't keep using the "but Sony fans are arrogant" excuse to get away with saying anything. What did Sony fans do to deserve the scale of PS3 hate that there was? The same applies to the Vita now. Unless I'm missing something, they didn't do anything. The WiiU doom threads are retaliatory, the PS Vita ones weren't, that's the difference, and even then, they are nowhere near on the same scale.

Considering how much shit the PS3 took, and how far it has come since, I think the response from Sony fans has been pretty restrained so far. There is nothing wrong with this thread, it is retaliation against the PS3 haters/trolls from the start of the generation.

I suggets you take your own advice, because all you've been doing in this thread is attacking and causing retaliation, which was the point I made in the first place. (I bolded everything in my older post, just so you didn't miss it)

Hirai just mentioned at CES that gaming is one of the three pillars of Sony. If they did this well with the PS3 despite arriving later than X360 and the huge price tag initially (it's still as expensive as a Wii U model) then how can they do any worse after learning the lessons of this generation (PS4 hardware is not going to be as hard to make games for and as expensive, blu ray drives are cheaper and so on)?

Do you guys think Vita is gonna be the last Sony hh?

@Pezus: You didn't see it that much on Wii, because DS sales had just picked up and it was breaking records. However, "Nintendo doing the Sega" had been a constant topic ever since GC launched; you could find a new reason for them to do so every week.

PSP was supposed to crush the DS and Nintendo exiting the hardware business (once again). Wii was supposed to fail because it would compete the DS. And so on...

Whereas for PS3 the concern actually was real; it was losing lots of money with the company doing badly overall, while being in huge debt. If the "doomsayers" expected SCE to bankrupt, they were right; it did.

This has got to be one of the most delusional things I've read on vgchartz. There's one thing I dislike, and that's delusion.
