Forums - Sony - Do you remember when PS3 was going to be Sony's last console?

Yes, I did. But I even remembered back that people said PS3 will dominate and X360 will not be sold more than 30million back to 2006. What happened now? PS3 is not dead but it lost a huge market share. X360 is not dead and gain a huge market share. This generation is the most remarkable gen in the gaming industry. Let us just enjoy it and wait for the next-gen.

Oh shit, next gen already started because of Wii U...

That was back then when analyst believed that PS3 would end up an disaster for the firm. And it did? The PS3 was worth it?

I don't quite get the question marks. Seems a bit out place by the words that precede them.

Anyhow a lot of that PS3 being a disaster is rubbish. PS3 didn't put Sony or a large number of Japanese companies in financial difficulties.

It wasn't responsible for the sharp drop in sales of Sony TVs, DVDs, cameras .,etc

The recession was.

Had the PS3 been a total disaster but Sony still propered from it's range of other products it still wouldn't have killed Sony.

Sony's entertainment was already in trouble before the recession started. They sold millions of PS2's with a profit and I think maybe a small profit or small lose with PSP but even then the numbers were huge red thanks to the PS3.. Their will be not many investors who think now that the PS3 was a good thing.  They prefer to see a Wii/DS/3DS..

Sony wanted to make the PS3 like the PS2 and they totally failed.   They saw that the big succes with PS2 was the dvd player and they hoped to do the same with PS3 and blu ray.     Remember how in 2007 sony marketed the PS3 as an blu ray player that is cheap.   Haters loved it and lovers were mad because they should also market it as an gaming machine..

Baby steps. One gen at a time :)

But even I didn't believe that crap. PS3 was supposed to just do worse then PS2, it was just a matter off seeing by how many millions.

Is that why you've been posting so many Wii U is doomed threads lately? Because this man left you butthurt?

Imagine every Nintendo fanboy getting butthurt over Pachter and his nonsense predictions. It makes no sense. Hell, I remember a lot of people saying the Wii would be Nintendo's last console because it wasn't as powerful as the 360/PS3. I even remember a lot of people agreeing the PSP would end Nintendo altogether as the handheld market was the only thing keeping Nintendo afloat.
The DS? That was just an underpowered handheld with a gimmick. There's no way Nintendo can compete against the PSP with that thing...

And don't even get me started on the PSVita vs. 3DS.

Good times indeed.

Tbh the only one who looks "hurt" here is you. Do you really think the threads I've posted are WiiU "doom" threads? If so, you might want to check your own feelings again, brah, and then go and read over the threads.

Explain to me how you come to your conclusions? I've been quite dissappointed with the Wii U so far but I've got 2 other great platforms and a handheld to fall back on. The perks of being a real gamer who doesn't care about brand I suppose. As for your Wii U threads... Obvious Troll is obvious. You don't have a Wii U, you will most likely never even touch one but yet you feel the need to make a thread about it almost every day. I'm guessing that will stop as soon as the Wii U starts selling well. In fact I'm quite certain of it. I'm guessing you did the same with the 3DS. No 3DS threads from you now though... Coincidence? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Finally, I find it quite funny to see guys like you say the PS3 is the best thing since Mozes received the 10 commandments yet are the most active on this site. And if it would be about Sony this and Sony that I would understand but you invest a lot of time in a console you don't care for.

So let's hope Wii U sales pick up, maybe then you'll actually enjoy 'your' console more.

And I refer you to my previous answer to you...

Yeah, you got nothing to say. That was pretty clear from your first answer.

Whereas Ipod answered the challenge to Walkman, Ipad was made to challenge the PS3

This has got to be one of the most delusional things I've read on vgchartz. There's one thing I dislike, and that's delusion.

Really? What makes it delusional?

What products does Apple have, and how do they overlap with Sony's? What was the reason, according to Steve Jobs, to release the Iphone? What's Apple's most lucrative business?

It makes it delusional in that the moves my Apple are all viewed in the optics of retaliation to Sony products, when the iPad has basically little to nothing to do with the PS3. It's a glorified iPod touch that tackles the iPod touch market and the laptop market. Don't you remember when the iPad was marketted to be able to display graphs and PDFs, as well as play mobile games?

As to why Steve Jobs released the iPhone, it was to carry on his legacy of systems that revolutionized their respective markets. In this case, the phone market.

Remember when people said PS3 was a huge financial disaster and it would never recover its losses. Well... Sony proved them right!

Anyone remember all those years Sony was supposed to surpass the 360 in worldwide sales? Well... its gonna happen eventually!

Lets not pretend this gen has gone particularly well for Sony.

Hmmmm... no.

PS2 was a competition killer.

PS3 allowed competition to thrive.

Good that I wasn't here in those bitter times. Anti-Sony people still talk nonsense these days when Playstation 3 is in better shape and doing better than others. I can't imagine how heinous these people were in those days.

@Happydolphin:
Of course the competition is broader than just one company. With products designed to compete all of them, the features need to overlap every competitor.
It's quite possible the companies just happen to share the same goals, but the result is kind of the same.

And it's not thought as retaliation to Sony products, but as who's potentially giving them the hardest time.

Apple obviously want's to be in your livingroom, pocket, anything just as long as you keep purchasing the content from Itunes (or what the shop is called today). Sony just aswell has the goal of "to control your livingroom". What would it mean to Apple, if Playstation (insert a number here), were every homes multimedia hub, and you'd be buying the content via PSN - just like you've seen all the fanboys hyping in the internet to happen every time Sony has put up a new feature into PSN. What if you could connect your (Sony) mobile devices to PS3 and use the content on the go. Or if you could access the content on your PS3 via online, and consume it anywhere on your (Sony) mobile device. Sony could also have tons of exclusive content, due to it's game, music and film divisions. Next Spiderman could be aired on PSN the same day it's premiered in cinema - who else could do that.

When you look at things from the content perspective - like Apple does as a content-providing service-oriented company - not in a tech perpective, the world looks very different. The approach Apple has, is similar to Nintendo with Wii; different enough to not to compete directly (even if you'd have a competing console, you still could buy one to provide different experience) and cheaper to develope games for, to ensure profitability for the publishers (besides, stealing a game/publisher from a competitor, is always a double-win for you).

It's really not the games they'd be competing, but about who will provide the content for the next decade or two.

And as a side note; prior to Ipad release, I filled a survey which was conducted to find out Ipad's potential as a videogames console.

It only does everything, as there's an app for that.
