I think we're selling a new trend in main stream gaming units, 3ds vita and wii u have all struggled upon launch, 3ds escaped this with a price drop soon after. What also hasn't help is naming/advertising , I honestly don't think I've seen any commercial for the wii u, it also doesn't help when stores have the wii u games mixed in with the wii games, nothing labeling them apart.

A mix of both, the marketing sucks but the masses are also not interested in the system. Wii had a big hype going on, with systems sold out for months. It was something different. WiiU however is not, there are systems on store shelves, and people already have seen tablets so WiiUs biggest feature(the GamePad) is not an incentive for people to buy it.

I'm not even gonna talk about the launch line up and whats releasing in the next few months.

First the Wii u launch isnt bad when you compare it with PS3 and X Box 360 launch.

Wii U doesnt reach Wii Level of sales, yes but that was to be seen. Im truly not surprised at the sales.

I have said it several times now and no one have believed me the reason why the Wii was so succesfullwas because of its motion controlls. The Wii was so succesfull because it convinced all the casulas to buy one.
Surly games like Super Mario helped the system but they werent the main reason the Wii has sold so well.

Gamecube and N64 showed us that.

The Wii was also the cheapest console on the market, another reason why it sold so well
The Wii was also the first "nect gen"console on the market.

But the market has chanced. Right now X Box and PS is looking at the casual audience too which means more competition for nintendo.

In the end i think wii u will be fine but iofyou expect it to be a wii like success you are completly wrong because Mario and Zelda alone dont make a console a 100 M seller as the game cube and n64 showed us.

The Wii U need Mario and Zelda games, the Wii u need casual games and more important it need third party games ( and by that i meannot only lazy ports) and it need some time and a good advertising to differate it from other consoles.

Where are they advertising the Wii U in the UK? Dont think I've seen anything on TV for the console or any of its games.

There are more than one factors that go into why the Wii U isn't selling bunches. The most common one is games. And look, there aren't that many. The next is marketing, there isn't a big brand push for the Wii U like the Wii. And another is price. Again, the price isn't the best.

Nintendo need to take those actions (and maybe a few more) to make the Wii U a competitor.

The Wii U doesn't have interesting games yet. Unless one wants to play yet another Mario Bros (don't people get tired of it?). It would interest people like me because of the Wii b/c. But we are still squeezing the juice out of the other 2 HD consoles, and especially the PS3 will have a great 2013 in terms of exclusives, so there isn't really the need to invest in another console, yet. It's better to wait and see what will happen with the new PS4/Xbox.
