In continuing with the constant comparisons between the Wii U launch and the PS3 launch, the Wii U is currently selling on par with the PS3 despite the Wii U being in more territories.

Back in April 2007 as a cost cutting move, Sony discontinued the 20GB PS3 in North America citing "lack of consumer interest".  Fast forward to this week, Iwata mentioned in his interview with Reuters that it has been a challenge to release 2 consoles (one being more popular than the other) and I personally feel that they will discontinue the Wii U basic fairly soon, either at their January or April earnings release.

Unlike the PS3 though, they will not have another separate sku.

Doubt it. If you want to look at the why, look at how Sony now has a 12G bundle for the PS3.

They sell. At least in europe... US might be different somehow.

At this point? No. Later? Maybe. The basic version is the cheapest so not everyone will buy the $350 version. Especially parents.

Yes, but not in such a short time frame. I expect them to just get rid of the Basic and bring the price down for the Deluxe to at least $300. Not until at least the fall, though, seeing as they already lose money on each console.

Nintendo will take the margin hit, I think they will rebrand the preimum as something else and charge the 299$ (with Nintendo Land) and reserve special bundles for special games or times of the year.

I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon. there loosing to much money on both.

I feel like Nintendo is making more money with the Deluxe that they are with the Basic. Yes I think they will disco indie the basic eventually.

They might add Nintendo land to it and bundle New Super Mario U with the Deluxe instead, a bit into the life cycle.

Anyways, I think they will rearrange the bundles so that NSMBU is the bundled game, considering how weak the sales power of Nintendo Land is and how strong the sales power of NSMBU is.

correction: Loosing more money. Nintendo is selling the Wii U at a loss. Bro.

It will be this fall, when the deluxe gets cut to $300. Then they will release a white model of the deluxe.
