Forums - Gaming - console=3D, handheld=2D?

does anyone else feel that 3D games should be on home consoles and 2D games on handhelds? dont get me wrong, i love my 3DS and all its 3D games but i feel like seperating the two types of gameplay would help both markets sell better. my favorite gen was GC/GBA and it did an excellent job of having all the classic franchises on both systems and they were vastly different experiences like fusion/prime, wind waker/minish cap, mario advance/sunshine. this also could have been a good way for sony to differentiate the vita from ps3 since people dont seem to care about console gaming on the go.

It's an interesting question. I agree certain games feel more "at home" on a console or a handheld system. And I'm grateful that handheld systems have kept alive many genres and sub-genres that have faded into obscurity on home consoles.

But we've seen huge success stories with 3D game on handhelds -- just look at Super Mario 3D Land -- and 2D games on consoles -- specifically Nintendo consoles.

However, I do think handheld games should, in general, be shorter and more digestible than console games. They're meant to be played in transit and in short bursts, after all.

Anyhow the only thing that makes 3D games not work on handhelds to me is controls.  If they work then great  but even a few problems can kill it for me.

Quoted for truth.

Well personally I like 3d games on both handhelds and home consoles, but I rarely ever play 2d games on home consoles, I just don't like it...
