Forums - Gaming - PS3 sales surpass Xbox 360 (Shipped Numbers)- report

Its not even worth debating, if sony hasn't done it now they'll do it at some point in Q1/2. Also these figures are shipped not sold.

It isn't very likely... VGChartz would have to be way undertracked for this report be correct. We'll have to wait the official numbers to draw conclusions.

So much damage control in here!

well the Shipment Number's sell through to consumer's is pretty much in my opinion as a guide line because the shipment/reorder number's to retail chain's are really the only way your going to have some idea about the totals, even then the number may be off because not all the systems in the retail chain sell at the same time, so projection sales, are only as acurate as the restock/reorder number's. but what we do not know is when the retail chain's have to have their re order's/restock in on a store by store basis. Unless Sony stated you have to have your order's in by the 15th of every month as an example. and that may be for the upcomeing shipment month for that restock/re order invoice.

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

When did we start using shipped as sold...lol...let's just wait until VGC makes holiday adjustments and go from there...this is a really hilarious thread though.

This looks extremely unlikely. Unless they are rounding 76.5 to 77 and Sony shipped a LOT of superslims after drying up the channel to sell all slims. But even then it's hard to believe. It'll happen, but not yet probably.

Now VGChartz should be checking and updating accordingly. It's time for the adjustments. I still believe PS3 is under tracked by atleast 1mn margin.

how long have you thought this for?

Post Q4 2011.

Then we have a problem.....

First column is shipped, second column is sold, 3rd column is the difference:

How can there be more sold than shipped?

If VGC is a million off then in March then shipped would be 63.93 and sold would be 64.45 = 520k more sold than shipped.

If VGC is a million off then in June sold would be 66.07 and shipped would be 65.63 = 440k more sold than shipped.

So you can see why your belief is impossible and you are wrong.

First of all, to initiate a clear debate over this issue, I would like to know where the shipped numbers  are coming from. What sources do  you use to put up those numbers in that shipped column? Post the links and I'm open to discuss.

er.... Sony.

Yeah, and let the FY 2012 figures be put up as well, which will help us to discuss more about this. Moreover Post Q4 2011, I tried to imply anything after fiscal year 2011. I didn't realize for Sony it was March 31st up until now. Thanks for the link post.

Those numbers there are up to March 31st 2012.

The numbers for PS2 and PS3 combined for the next two quarters can be found there too by clicking the appropriate link for "computer entertainment system"

Yeah, I did check all of it before coming back to post here. So FY 2012's final figure with Q3 and Q4 is yet to be confirmed by Sony, which I'm indeed looking forward to seeing.

but you do concede it does make your original statement impossible.

Absolutely I do not without the official figures for 2012(initially implied as  post q4 2011- that really created a confusion between us). As I mentioned above we just need to wait for Sony's official figures for 2012 which is not so long from now. And it's the only basis how VGchartz can make the adjustments for sales figures in  relation to the shipped data.

Sony's own numbers don't really line up with it and yet people still think the "article" is right?

Are you that desperate for good news?

Will we even know for sure after Sony posts their quarterly results? Don't they lump PS2/3 together now?
