I think they may have 75million shipped at max right now...

I guess IF it is true (big if) it's due to new model channel stuffing...still doubt it.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

what is IDC anyway?

Absolute domination!!

You must be thinking of the Wii.

Everytime i remember the Wii i see dead people.

I think it's more of shipped numbers and not sold. Remember Sony and Microsoft uses shipped/sold to retail and not sold to consumer numbers.

didn't Sony ship 70m before Nov.? that means Sony sold 8m during Nov. and Dec. and MS sold 6m. i'm not so sure about this.

MS didn't sale that much better then PS3 during Nov. anways, and with wk 29 Dec. wiping the 30-70k a wk MS outsold Sony in, Sony could have a lead or the gap could be 600k-1.5m.

Also, whens the Q4 financials suppose to be released?

Has anyone ever heard of these people before?

"This IDC study forecasts demand for video game and interactive entertainment console hardware and disc-based game software worldwide through 2016. Specific platforms covered in significant depth include Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii and Wii U, and Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. Demand for next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony is also forecast based on a set of reasonable assumptions. Regional breakdowns include North America, Western Europe, Japan, and a combined rest of the world region. Key metrics tracked include console bundle and packaged game disc shipments, console installed bases, hardware and packaged software ASPs, and hardware and packaged software revenue.

"Demand for packaged disc sales will clearly fall as digital distribution ramps up and eighth-generation consoles take center stage," says Lewis Ward, research manager of IDC's Connected Consumer: Gaming service. "This means that console hardware will become a more important aspect of the market from a brick-and-mortar retail perspective in particular. It appears that hardware ASPs will hold up fairly well through 2016, however, so the decline in disc-based revenue doesn't mean that game consoles' value position will be cannibalized by competing platforms anytime soon."

Actually an interesting theory since they launched the new model without cutting the price. Technically they could massively ship it at that price and take whatever sales they manage and be fine once they actually consider a price drop. Their big production cost reduction was already made, so they don't have much of a worry to produce cheaper versions that they could have saved money with if they didn't ship so many.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
