Apparently if the rumors are to be believed they are going to get their wish. In a few months it will be two years since the Wii U was announced, and that would mean that a late fall launch would be about two and a half years, and a late spring launch next year will actually be three solid years. Nope no padding, I really didn't expect these responses lol. I really thought people were more than happy with their PS360s and even happier to just buy games instead of expensive consoles. But I agree, it will soon be 'a few years' more since people have had their PS360s, so maybe while it's not yet a full 10 year plan, it's been a good number of years.

If a game like GTA/COD can STILL sell enormous amounts on PS3 and 360 I DONT think there is a need for a new console. Both consoles are still at a very healthy stage.

*Problem with the HD twins is that "POWER" forces new consoles out. Developers should just focus on creactivity and refinement but instead they want to push power. Sad shit.

Third party devs have been putting pressure on MS and Sony to release newer more powerful hardware for their next batch of games. That and this gen is winding down. MS needs a new console and Sony doesn't just yet but they cant just sit idle and watch Microsoft run off with more of their marketshare. That and even though Sony and Microsoft are still selling well their sales are dropping and wearing out their welcome.

Everyone who talks about Sony's "10 year plan" for consoles does realize that the PS1 released in 1994, the PS2 in 2000, and the PS3 in 2006?  Those are six year intervals exactly.  To have no console out before 2016 with the new generation having already started in 2012 would be ludicrous.  They are clearly referring to the fact that they will continue to support the software for the console even after their next gen console has released.  The PS1 was supported for about 11 years after release, and the PS2 about 12 years.  But, each console had significant overlap with the release of it's successor.  PS4 will absolutely release within "the 10 year plan" of the PS3.

OK, but why can't the overlap come begining 2016 (or maybe a bit earlier) instaed of 2013? Yes a new console gen has started, but is Wii U that much of a threat to the PS360 with their already established installed user base and 3rd party support? So much so to warrant the uncertainty of new concole sales?

I personaly never claimed that. But you have to admit that the people with PS360s weren't looking forward to a Wii U only slightly more powerfull than the PS360 they already have. I'll be getting a Wii U as soon as a real Mario, Zelda or Metroid hits because I always buy Nintendo consoles for my favorite Nintendo games. But I'm sure you can see that people are excited about the next Playstation and Xbox because they will be huge advancements compared to what we have now. Halo 5 is going to be spectacular.

Agreed, but which will make MS more money Halo 5 on 360 2014 or Halo 5 on 720 in 2014? Hence my reason for tthis thred. Yes the gen has to end some time, but is now the right time for Sony and MS? I'm not so sure of that.

MS makes Halo for two reasons. It makes money and sells consoles. The consoles it sells get the machine into peoples homes who buy more games. They make most of their money from liscensing 3rd party games. So MS will make more money from Halo 5 on the Nextbox because people have started to slow down buying stuff on the current gen and are waiting for the next gen. Halo 5 will convince them to buy Nextbox and they will make truckloads of money from 3rd party liscenses.

I can argue this further, but I'll rest my case

Why don't you go look for them?

I myself wanted a PS4 last year. I think we'll be extremly lucky if we get one this year. Microsoft and Sony are intent on milking this these consoles dry.

Agreed. I just think as the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. No doubt Sony and MS are making money NOW on PS360, but will very likely be losing chunks of money on PS720 for years to come.

Ps3/360 sales will make still sell for a few more years and will make up for a lot of these losses. Who cares anyway? Sony and Microsoft have other divisions to make up for these losses.

I am happy with current gen consoles for a few more years but that does not mean I want next gen consoles to come in a few years. I want them now so that they are price cutted and problems like RROD and YLOD are out of the way when I start buying.
