From personal experience (which is a limited sample): Plenty of friends who didn't give two craps about 3DS until they saw the announcement for Pokemon X and Y. (I had to show them though.)

The boost wont hit until closer to launch in Oct

I doubt it'll get any noticeable spike from this. If it does it'll be very small.

I can see sales increasing slightly leading up to October. And then when X & Y release there will be a huge sales spike.

i dont think so, i was gonna say in japan but then i remembered that the sales of the thing are crazy there.

There will be a boost of 188,000 3DS's the week this hits.

Woop. Misread the question. There will be a spike in hardware sales with the release.
I think hardware sales will increase but as someone else said, won't be noticeable.
