Eh. I dunno if the Wii U will be a success or failure. Frankly I can't begin to care. It has nothing to offer me, thus failure or success has little impact on me other than the possibility of limiting resources to mediums I do care about. I say mediums rather than games or consoles because at this point it is not only the genre (RPG mostly) that I care about but also the input method of said genre. I refute wholeheartedly the complete bullshit that is motion control and any said RPG that uses such is plebeian crap such that I can but barely even acknowledged its existence. So, my position is that if others like it fine, I just hope that these games that I like are created on consoles that I can at least use _traditional_ controls.

That is all.

You can use traditional controls on the Wii U. Plus it is very likely that it dominate Japan and get many decent JRPGs. So what do you say now, still don't care, because of an obvious bias?

Dunno if it means much, but where I live (UAE), there was a stack of 10 Wii U Deluxe versions just lying there at the Carrefour supermarket and no one was looking at them. It was the same in another game shop I went to, and I asked the cashier if they sold any and he said no.  Neither store was selling the basic version. And what was more strange was that, they were selling both NTSC and PAL Wii U's. I wonder why they'd sell NTSC Wii U's in a PAL region? Anyways, I doubt they'd sell well here anyways, cause most people here have a PS3 and they were way overpriced for some reason. The Wii U Deluxe for PAL regions was AED2500 ($680) and the one for NTSC regions was AED2199 ($599).

Well, PS3 does seem to have some regions locked down, e.g. in Europe, and maybe as you might be suggesting the UAE. Nintendo also has a region locked down Japan, at the moment, and I don't see it loosening its grip on there anytime soon. As for MS, the seem to have the Americas on lock, but sell like shit in Japan. So it's all relative and will be interesting to see how each attacks those markets that they are not that stong in. For example, is MS going to throw so many Nextboxes at Japan as it did for the 360 launch?  Ultimately, there will be no easy ride for MS, Sony, or Nintendo, they all will equally have to work hard as they all face their own peculiar reginal challenges.

I wouldn't really say that considering the majority of their sales come from the holidays.
Although the it does outsell the PS3 each month, it is not by huge margins.

I think the same goes for PS3 in Europe. It is leading the region but far from having the region "on lock". Look how the PS2 was dominating in every region and how easily it lost it during the next-gen transition. PS3/360 don't have nearly as strong a lock on any of the market that they are leading so they are much more prone to lose it next-gen.

The sales figures aren't that bad and when you consider Nintendo have completely cocked up the marketing in that most people still don't understand its a new console I think the numbers are easy to improve throughout the year.

That's not necessarily true. 3DS had Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for its first holiday season...and then New Super Mario Bros 2 and Paper Mario for its second, with no other major releases for the holidays.

I agree with you, I feel something big other then Mario will be announced (Most likely a Metroid game from Retro Studios, or Smash Bros.), but there could just as easily be just another Mario game.

That's because Wii U was coming out, Nintendo is not crazy like Sony who always seems to cannibolise its own software and hardware sales. I think Nintendo actively killed the Wii and I belive also the DS, so that they don't compete with 3DS and WiiU. Now that Wii U has launched expect that Nintendo will alternate significant software releases between 3DS and Wii U for 2013. It would have silly for nintendo to have release any big titles for 3DS during Wii U launch, or made any other significant moves like bundles, or price drops for 3DS during that time. However, I expect such in 2013, a more agressive Nintendo.

Sony cannibolizes their own software and hardware sales? Explain that to me.

I doubt that Nintendo killed its own system, if they were planning on that, why release a Wii mini for $100 right when the WiiU released?

I agree Nintendo didn't push the 3DS outside of Japan during the WiiU launch (in Japan they released Animal Crossing, which is now the best selling 3DS game there), and I agree Nintendo will be much more agressive on both fronts in 2013, but this doesn't mean that there won't be a new Mario for 2013. 3DS already has 2 Mario platformers, Kart, and a RPG, it's unlikely that Nintendo will release anything Mario for the 3DS in 2013. However its very possible that Nintendo makes a 3D Mario Platformer, or at the very least a Mario Spinoff game (Like Mario Paty) for 2013.

I'm only arguing that it's also possible that Mario will be the only WiiU game for fall 2013. I doubt it, I bet you there will be a simultanious Smash Bros announcement at E3, and maybe something from Retro Studios for fall 2013, but it's possible.

PSP v Vita = cannibolize. I expect that Sony and MS will run into the same problem as PS360 will eat into PS720 sales.

Wii mini, that thing was released in Canada with zero marketing and just 1 pic. The fact is nintendo has stopped making significant games for Wii.

Animal Crossing in Japan, OK, but that was still almost a whole month before Wii U in Japan I think. Plus, they had to keep the pressure on Vita's, so they had to release something.

Hmm, OK Mario could be in 3D like Mario Sunshine or Galaxy, I agree, but I hope Nintendo has reliased that the Plumber needs a bit of a break.

Here's hoping that we finally see what Retro is up.

When it does begin to get decent RPGs that utilize traditional controls then I will consider it. Otherwise no. Frankly I don't see _why_ a developer would put a traditional control input RPG on the WiiU since the concecpt of the WiiU itself flies in the face of traditional controls.

Too early to tell who is doomed, but Wii U wont be it. The hardware is custom made for the needs of the Japanese market, wich means that just like the 3DS it will see alot of support from that area.

Its also in a very favorable position in relation to its competitors, already with a lead of 2.5 millions, i believe.

I think it will all be played at E3 when comparing the new Wii U games to the game the PS4 and X720 will run. If theres a really noticeable difference, the Wii U might be in for a struggle. If they look similar, the Wii U has a good chance to dominate the market due to the headstart. Too early to tell, but certainly not doomed at all.

Also, the Nintendo cycle seems to be a reality.
