Well, PS3 does seem to have some regions locked down, e.g. in Europe, and maybe as you might be suggesting the UAE. Nintendo also has a region locked down Japan, at the moment, and I don't see it loosening its grip on there anytime soon. As for MS, the seem to have the Americas on lock, but sell like shit in Japan. So it's all relative and will be interesting to see how each attacks those markets that they are not that stong in. For example, is MS going to throw so many Nextboxes at Japan as it did for the 360 launch? Ultimately, there will be no easy ride for MS, Sony, or Nintendo, they all will equally have to work hard as they all face their own peculiar reginal challenges. |
I wouldn't really say that considering the majority of their sales come from the holidays.
Although the it does outsell the PS3 each month, it is not by huge margins.
I think the same goes for PS3 in Europe. It is leading the region but far from having the region "on lock". Look how the PS2 was dominating in every region and how easily it lost it during the next-gen transition. PS3/360 don't have nearly as strong a lock on any of the market that they are leading so they are much more prone to lose it next-gen.
