Forums - PC - 4gbs of RAM but only 2 usable?? WTF?! HELP!!!!

Hi, I am having a problem with my PC since a couple of days.   I always have on my desktop a widget that shows the CPU and RAM usages, and lately my RAM usage is over 75% since it boots up, and that is really weird considering it is always 35% or less.     Eventually (today) I searched for system properties of the system of windows and and used other programs that check that things; and even though the windows tells me I have 4gb of RAM installed, it is only using 2gb, and the other programs tells me that I only have 2gbs!  DAFAQ?!!

Also the PC is sounding way louder now.  The temp is in 41 C.

Here are some pics.    Obviously since I began using the photoshop to take the screens the ram usage was higher, but 89% is just ridiculous.

Why is this happenning and how can I fix this??

Thx in advance for anyone reading :)

EDIT: The screens are a bit big, so please make right click and select view pic :D

EDIT #2: Searching the web I found that the windows through msconfig can resolve that, in which you can set up the max ammount of RAM to be usable.   Is it recommended to do so??

EDIT 3: msconfig did not solved the problem

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!! D:

come on!!, I know there is people is in this site that knows this things.
If you help me you can get a digital cookie!!

lol XD

is it two sticks of 2GB ram or 4 sticks etc? Maybe you have some bad RAM.

If you are using two sticks , one could be dead.

Pull them both out. Put one in slot 1 and see if it boots up with 2GB.

Then put the other one in slot 1 and see if it boots.

If they both working sounds like windows is reserving it for something. I know mine does it for the onboard video card. So could check your bios to see if onboard video somehow activated. or if some of your ram is being reserved to your actual gfx card.

Also check max memory setting in bios, my need to reset your bios if something gone loopy.

Was it 4GB usable before? If not, might it be that your motherboard doesn't support more than 2GB (doubtful I think)?

It was 4gb before :D

Use Google. MS has an article on this.

But yeah it's either some hardware you've recently changed about the computer, or more likely a RAM module has failed.

my video card is a GeForce GTX580 with 1.5gb.  So I doubt that is the reason for the reserving memory.   I can change the settings with msconfig, and put 4gb as maximum RAM to be used, but is it recommended???

erm, this is very normal, your graphics chip is using the other 2 gig.

Details of your graphics card?

Incorrect, that only happens on 32 bit versions of Windows where as he clearly is using a 64 bit version which doesn't have the 4GB maximum memory addressing issues.
