Forums - Sales - Halo 4 sells more in 7 weeks than GT:5 sold in its first year

Halo reach sold 1,6 million in 2011, its second year

even assuming that halo 4 will sell 1,8 million during 2013, it will not reach gt5

Great sales for an exclusive game, but pretty average sales for an fps.

Wait.........what?

Halo 4 is now the fastest selling FPS ever not called COD.  How on earth is that average for an FPS?  In fact please tell me how many FPS sell 7 million in their LIFETIME on one console besides Call of Duty.

I assume you consider COD sales are from another planet. I won't exclude COD at all.

If you want to judge how good Halo 4 is selling you should put it against the best in the business, which is an fps.

Consider GT5 in an era when a multiplat racer sells tons of millions each year!

Why is everybody saying halo is front loaded and not a long legged title? Sure halo has great openings, but it has legs as well. Halo games dont stop selling people!

I guess you haven't seen my sig. Take a look.

Lol you gotta be kidding right Killzone 3 is heavily discounted on top of that its bundled with a controller and all the Killzone games.  You will never see a bundle from MS that includes all the Halo games and a controller at a discounted price.

Your kidding yourself it will sell a lot more then that.  Also its the prime candidate for next years holiday bundle that alone will increase its sales by over 2 million units.

Comparing GT 5 to Halo sales is ridiculous..

How man Halo Reach ( released in 2010 - same year as GT 5? ) has sold nearly 9.4 million copies.. but they don't come out with GT games as often.. Halo 4 has been out 7 weeks and sold 7+ million.. obviously Halo Reach will still sell but it's gonna be not much because Halo 4 is out.. If GT 6 launched a few months ago do you think GT 5 sales would dwindle as well ? Of course they would..

To the poster who said GT 5 keeps selling.. of course it does.. and it will as long as they update with new packs and maps as they do.. until GT 6 comes out.. The same can be said for Halo..

You cant expect Halo games to have as long of legs - when they come out with new games more often.. Halos are coming out now every two years folks.. if they sell 9 or 10 million that's amazing for a game with a 2 year lifespan.. halo 4 will sell 10 million or more in the next two years.. Two Halo games in a 4 year span will sell 20 million copies.. when GT 5 is one year older will it be near 20 million ? I mean if they keep updating the game and selling it as "current" .. its a fair question..

Unless its a digital download, which vgchartz wont track :(

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

And the my last sentences above.. If you're going to compare GT 5 sales to Halo sales.. GT 5 has long legs only because its the newest product and it keeps getting updates and packs to keep it fresh.. GT5 will be 4 years old next year.. will Gran Turismo as a series sell in 4 years what Halo has as a series in 4 years? Since it cant be an apples to apples comparison You have to look at what GT games sell in the last ten years versus all Halo games..

I always expected Halo 4 to have a stronger launch. But I'll be more impressed if it surpasses GT5"s lifetime sales, which I don't see happening.

It will happened because it will be included in next years holiday bundle which will give it a 2million+ boost and by the time its bundled it will aready be around the 9 million mark.

I doubt it...we'll see.

I doubt it would be digital download the only first party MS game that was digital download in a bundle was Alan Wake.

I guess you haven't seen my sig. Take a look.

Think he means full Halo titles. Your listing a expansion. Why dont you make your sig a little more logical and find out Halo Reachs 2012 sales?

Jaywoods post also sums up my thoughts nicely.

1)ODST isn't an expansion, it's a full retail game and people happily paid full price for it.

2) Reach would invalidate the comparison (even though yours is nonsensical to begin with). Here's why:

GT5 - release 2010

Halo3:ODST - release 2009

You compare GT5 to not 1 but 2 other games. One from 2011, and one from 2012.

I compare Halo 3:ODST to just 1 game, from 2011. (1.5 years apart, between release of Forza 4(1 year) and Forza Horizon (2 years))

The comparison is completely valid according to your sig, which is why it's hilarious that you state that mine isn't and yours is.

To put it simply, you're comparing an old game's legs to a new game's front-loaded numbers. It's stupid.

Here's what a valid comparison looks like:

Lifetime sales:

GT series - 65.78m

Forza series - 15.16m
