It will not matter to most PS3 fans cuz we've known this would happen at one point or another.

Even if it does pass it the 360 in total consoles sold - it really doesn't matter .. Sony is more concerned about the Net Revenue then fans are concerned (obsessed ) about total consoles sold..

The PS3 still cost more to make then the Xbox 360 and even more to make then the Wii .. this means that Sony makes less per console sold then the other consoles makers .. Sony lost Billions absorbing the millons of consoles they sold for hundreds less then 1 grand it cost Sony to make a PS3 at launch because they knew they had no choice or they simply wouldn't sell them..

The PS2 was so far ahead of the competition that unfortunately fans that couldn't adjust to Sony's lack of dominance that they think the PS3 will end up like the PS2 which was under completely different times and had EVERY exclusive which the PS3 has lost many..

The Next Xbox will have Bluray.. and the PS4 will be more like an Xbox ( the new head of the PS division didn't want an updated version of CELL because devs don't care to spend more time and revenue programming for it - will instead opt for a more PC like console that is developer friendly and cost effective ).. To me when the new consoles come out the PS3 will be a forgotten thing.. I mean at the end of the PS2's life it still had all the exclusives and the best games.. the same can't be said today. Especially in the USA where the 360 has sold 42 million and the PS3 has sold 25 million..

The PS2 dominated because it had north America.. the PS3 ( and the PS4 ) can't dominate without getting American back - a tough task at hand.. even Google is predicting the PS4 will get owned by the Next Xbox.. and Google did correctly predict using their data that Bluray would win..

The price cut and redesigned Super Slim helped spur PS3 sales. But the 360 still dominated the PS3 throughout the holiday season. Microsoft needs to do the same thing, redesign the Xbox 360, make it even slimmer, possibly throw in a blu ray player, Kinect should be bundled with all SKUs and they should make a permanent price drop. There's plenty they could do, it's not over until the fat lady sings bud.

its really not a big deal many anyway, as the PS3 has been the top console last few years. but the defense of it is pure gold.

There was no price cut this year for the PS3, in fact, like I stated above, it got a $20 price increase in America.  And the 360 didn't dominate the PS3 this holiday season, it slightly outsold it, which is why the PS3 will have a gap 1.3M+ over the 360 for the whole year.  And with the release of one 1st party exclusive next year, its obvious that MS is getting ready for next gen and will probably not push the 360 like you are hoping.  And yes, the 360 will have a price cut next year, but so will the PS3, which will have more of an affect than the 360 one.

You may want to look at the numbers, again.  The PS3 is only behind by 2M, not 3M.  And for the past 3 months, the 360 has only won 6 out of 13 weeks, and not by a large margin, hence the huge lead the PS3 has for the entire year.

The PS2 was so far ahead of 2nd place last gen ( by nearly 100 million ) that they also controlled all developers ( had the best games ) .. These things are no longer true..

Maybe the big deal is YOU people keep posting it and making it a big deal. Moral Victory ? PS2 90 million consoles ahead of Xbox 1 .. Fast forward: PS3 38 million behind Wii ..

Meanwhile it can also be the second best selling home console for Sony, right smack between the PS1 and PS2. So, if it sells more than PS1 it's still bad?

After the start they had in this gen, that's pretty damn incredible.
