The op has one glaring option missing, the best option remove guns completely and get them out of americas culture. which other western cultures and showing americans the example. also get rid of this stupid misconception that its a god given right that all you americans have the right to a murder weapon.

Correction:  The right to keep and bear arms is to protect us from the military and the police.  

Who are you to say we don't just because you don't think we should?  Do you live here?

You realize that the entire reason there is an America in the first place is because people fought to protect individual freedoms and liberty, which includes, among many other things, the right to keep and bear arms.

Guns are usually not a murder weapon, point of fact they are a violence deterrent.  

The Second Amendment exists because our Founding Fathers rightfully knew that the absolute last form of defense against tyranny are armed citizen militias.  Without citizens owning guns, there exists nothing to stop the government from quelling rebellions.  The American Revolution was a rebellion!

The made a prohibition on drugs.. Has that worked? Can you not buy drugs any more?  Prohibition doesn't work!  Are you that lazy that it's your answer to all things?  All prohibition does is give the criminals the choice of where and who it's sold to.  And if they want to sell a gun to a ten year old in a park then that's the way it's gonna be.

We succeeded in reducing tabacco addiction in the US by half and it wasn't by prohibition, it was by education.  Prohibition creates crime or dont you learn anything from history?  And like someone above me said, we need guns to kill tyrants.  It is our god given right to be free!

Look at other western countires that dont have guns in them. you dont see shit like mass shootings happening. apart from the very rare nut cases that are unhuman. and the world was a completely different place back then. theres simply no comparison. lastly the sole purpose of a gun is to inflict severe damage on the target. end of story its only because youve been bought up believing this crap that your defending them. you need to look from outside the box. 

If we only made murder illegal we could prevent anyone from killing anyone else ... After all, once something is illegal people never do it right?

Make it harder for people to own guns and put armed police officers in more schools are my answers to gun control. You can't outlaw guns because then guess who are the only people who have guns? Criminals and police. No thanks.

In regards to "other western countries that don't have guns", which countries are these, exactly? Unless they have the same population, crime rate, poverty rate, etc etc, it's an irrelevant comparison.

The passage of time is not helpful to your argument, as last time I checked the Constitution is still the law of the land, and a 2/3 majority of the 50 states would be required to amend it and get rid of the Second Amendment.

The sole purpose of guns is not to inflict severe damage.  As I said before, many times merely the sight of a gun deters many things, including gun fire.

And it's not crap, it's the most successful country ever in the history of the world, and you're not about to change it just because you don't "feel like" people should be allowed to have them anymore.  Speak for yourself.  

One of the main reasons our country exists, as I said, is antithetical to your entire argument, as if you had it your way, there would be no Constitutional Republic at all, and what became the world's largest importer and exporter would never have existed.  Your argument suggests quite a bit of naivete, and and also a bit of carelessness.

The founding fathers would probably be rolling on the floor laughing at the very prospect of citizens "protecting" themselves with guns against a military equipped with nuclear bombs, warships, guided missiles, tanks, warplanes...

Here is some food for thought. The Virginia Tech shooting occurred 3 weeks after they banned guns from schools. The Aurora shooting was the only theater out of 7 within the same radius from the shooters home that banned armed security. And the Sandy Hook shooting likewise banned armed personnel.
