- Look at all those percentage increases week over week!

- Hell yeah, Paper Mario!  This will definitely outsell the first two games.  Hopefully it can leg it out and beat Super Paper Mario, which is at 505k.

- Animal Crossing showing it's bad-assery and then some

- Layton vs. AA, not so much... :(

- NSMB2 will be at 2million retail sometime next year.  It's a relative flop, but Sony and Microsoft would love to have a flop that sell that gaddamn much

- My personal favorite game legs to watch each week is this one: 15./13. [3DS] Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire! (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.07.05} (¥5.040) - 38.586 / 330.977 (+56%)

Wii U should have a hopefully modest drop next week, but who knows. Nintendo needs to get some games out for it fast though. Q1 2013 isn't looking too hot right now. They need to start announcing titles and release dates asap.

Mario and Nintendo Land can't hold the fort for too much longer.

Pretty solid 3DS numbers, though it is to be expected around the holidays. Wii U holding up ok. Still amazed at the longevity of PS3 and PSP in Japan, especially without many new games these days. Does Japan just love the non gaming functions of those devices?

This about sums it up for the Vita:

Nintendomintation at it’s finest. The Wii U will pick up in the coming months with Monster Hunter, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends and Wonderful 101 coming soon. Excellent start for Wii U.

Dont know how people can be so delusional.  Monster hunter is already out and its out the top 30.  Those games you mentioned are not system sellers. and its selling half of what the Wii did in the same time period for this week.

The fact that you have to compare it to the phenomenon that was the Wii in order to make Wii U sales bad says a lot... a whole lot.

Anyways, it's half Vita LTD already.

Just like everyone says Vita doesn't have to outsell 3DS/PSP to be successful, Wii U doesn't have to outsell the Wii to be successful.  PS3 didn't outsell the Wii LTD, you aren't implying it's a failure though.

There where a lot of people who bemoaned the fact that the PS3 wasn't the PS2 incarnate when it came to sales and now some people seem to feel the same way about the Wii U compared to the Wii  , my take on the sales is it's to early to get an accurate read but my instinct says going forward much like happening now the console sales will be split between the 3 players , As to the Wii U it's following a  product that became for a time not just a games device but the next big or for want of a better word a trend , most trends are either replaced after there 15 minutes of fame with the next big thing or become cyclical like the yo yo craze of the 1960's popping up again every few years , now the fact that the Wii had more to it than just the next big thing meant the fifteen minutes of fame lasted a lot longer than most and the  nature of the console  market rules out the yo yo phenomenon , so you could either see the success as one off and move on (extremely hard to do as it filled with so many negatives) , or try to replicate it with your product through refinement or by coming up with something new that strikes a similar cord with consumers including as I think of them Nintendo gamers and Wii gamers that is the type of dilemma that faces a product following on from  success based on differing from the from the norm .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

News flash!

It's never going to sell Wii numbers.

So, in your mind, does that make it a "failure".

Just wondering.

I'd agree with that.

I think globally we're looking at something more akin to 40-50 million WW for Wii U versus 100+ million for Wii.

Wii U only 40 to 50 million? Impossible.

Wii was capable of 22 mil in a peak year. Granted I don't expect Wii U to match Wii either, but 65 million is the minimum.

I don't see it. I think the problem for Nintendo is all these franchises like Wii Sports and Wii Fit that really drove hardware sales for them 5-6 years ago, today will be minor sellers, much in the way Brain Training and Nintendogs + cats fizzled out on the 3DS. These are products that have their moment in the sun and then fade away.

Remove that, and the system has more in common with the GameCube than the Wii IMO, even if its called Wii U.

Still 40-50 million WW would be double+ the GameCube and around the same as the SNES. I wouldn't say that's a total disaster, Nintendo should be able to turn an OK profit. I see them becoming more of a Japan centric company.

 - No DS sales? I'm surprised, considering the PS2's on there and it's even older.

Well PS2 is selling better in Japan than DS in the last six months.

Still, you think it be on the chart as it was even last week. Most people would rather buy a 3DS in Japan, why buy an old console when the new one plays all the games from that console and more.
