PS3 sells out! Sign of it being number one behind 3DS this week?

If people are not aware of Nintendo's new console, then Nintendo's marketing department needs to work harder, and this should be a sign to Nintendo that they made a mistake with the naming of their new console. They should have given it a new name, not one so similar to their previous console.

reminds me of back in the day when confused housewives/mothers didn't get the difference between the nintendo entertainment system and the 'super' nintendo entertainment system. Sounds like they're doing ok regardless

I am always amazed that after even basic high school education, people in the developed world still don't grasp the idea of doing basic google / research to learn more about something. My guess is the average person's view on the Wii U right now are:

1) Have neard heard of it

2) Some tablet / gamepad add-on for the Wii

3) An HD version of the Wii with a new gamepad that just makes all Wii games play in HD but it's not a next generation Nintendo console.

Right now the sales of the Wii U are reasonable because so many hardcore fans/Nintendo gamers are buying it. We'll see what happens in 6-8 months once that wave of gamers have purchased their console. I think Nintendo needs a better way to convince the average person through TV or other forms of advertising that the Wii U is actually a next gen Nintendo console. Of course having a graphically impressive and highly rated 1st party AAA game would help portray this but Nintendo has none at the moment.

I think Nintendo made a mistake by leveraging off the Wii name. They should have called this new console Nintendo Revolution or something different so consumers know right away it has nothing to do with the Wii and the GamePad truly is a revolutionary new console feature. Maybe just call it Super Wii (NES --> SNES and Wii --> Super Wii), or Wii 2. So simple, yet so effective.

"NOT REALLY, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, LET THE CONSOLE SELL ITSELF TO THE NINTENDO FANS. IT IS CALLED STRATEGY. ONCE THEY REALIZE NINTENDO FANS(SHOULD BE AROUND 20 MILLION WORLWIDE) HAVE A WII U, THEN THEY WILL START TO PROMOTE IT TO THE CASUAL. GAMERS WANTED NINTENDO TO RECOGNIZE THEM, NOW ITS THE TIME, NINTENDO IS GIVING THEM THE LEAD BY NOT PUBLUSHING ANY OF THEIR KIDDY GAMES AND YOU AR STILL COMPLAINING. NINTENDO IS ALSO GIVING A CHANCE TO THE THIRD PARTY DEVELOPERS.  CAN YOU IMAGINE PIKMIN 3, BAYONETTA 2, MONSTER HUNTER 3ULTIMATE, AND THE WONDERFULL 101 AT LAUNCH? NO WAY OTHER MEDIOCRE GAMES LIKE ASSASINS CREED, MASS EFFECT2, BLACK OPS2, AND OTHER CAN SELL MORE THAN THOSE GAMES. THOSE ARE GAMES THAT YOU SEE ANNUALY, AND I WOULD SAY NINTENDO GIVE US 1 NEW MARIO SERIES PER CONSOLE GEN, 1 WORLD 3D MARIO PER CONSOLE, ONE ZELDA PER CONSOLE, OF COURSE THEY ARE GOING TO SELL BETTER, THEY HAVE A PERIOD OF AROUND 4 YEARS TO SELL AND BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY SO WHEN THE NEXT GEN COMES YOU CAN STILL PLAY THEM. LIKE WHAT IT IS HAPPENING TO XENOBLADES AND THE LAST STORY RIGHT NOW. "STRATEGY", AND NINTENDO HAS THAT SINCE 1984-85, THAT IS WHY THEY ARE STILL AROUND.

i must admit i was hoping to hear something along these ines. all soldout with the exception of Vita, which i was also hoping would be soldout.

WiiU was not sold out either, but out of 15 we had on Thursday of last week, there were two left. I did however hear someone ask her boyfriend what a WiiU was. He said it was just a new controller that plays wii games.... As we have heard before, Nintendo has a problem with confusion. 3DS and WiiU.

Hey, I say go with this.  Yes, it is a new controller that plays Wii games, and its own game.  It stands alone, so you don't even need to put them in your Wii.  Just put them in the stand alone disk unit that comes with the controller and you are set!  You can also have this stand alone disk controller hook up to your TV in an HD slot.  So, you also get an upgrade to your regular Wii.  And, as an added bonus, you then can take your Wii unit and unplug it, and put it away and save space!
