Yup. My life would be a lot better if I substituted all my time spent surfing VGChartz for something more productive or practical.

One thing VGChartzi-reading has harmed is the way I read. When I read posts on VGChartz or any other forum, I don't really get deep into what I'm actually reading. I usually just try to comprehend the text in the simplest and fastest way possible. Oftentimes, I find myself speed reading through posts skipping through entire phrases. Of course, this shallow form of reading requires very little energy and attention.

Unfortunately, I've found myself using this same method of reading on other, more energy-demanding texts. I tend to treat texts intended for deep reading like its some other shallow post on a forum. Needless to say, this has not been a good thing.

Another thing we don't realize consciously is how sedate our 'brain state' is when we are just browsing. It's hard to go from that to 'optimal learning state' when we feel like it.

THE REAL KILLER (trust me on this) is browsing at work/university.

JEEZUS. I would've been finished with my thesis by now if I spent half the time browsing just doing my dang work.

So this is why I never revise...

Some may think this is nonsense, but I've been observing this phenomena for years now.

For the last year I've spent 2 hours meditating from 5-7 in the mornings. Right after doing that I can tear apart a math or physics problem - no problem. But when I've spent some time reading up on videogames, my mind is very jumpy and unable to focus.

What I've done since (cause I'm too addicted to browsing to stop) is to always have classical/baroque music playing in the background. It's actually helped.

I think you're smart enough to push through regardless of this. For some it might be a killer blow, but I'm sure it'll just be an irritation for you. Good luck :)

It definitely makes sense. When I come home from school or I just wake up from a refreshing sleep I'm in that productive mindset where I can beast-run through all my work, but if come home or get up and just stare at a screen for hours I have no motivation at all to work, and even if I force myself to I don't get much done. Maybe I'll try that classical music trick ^-^ thanks

Nothin in particular. Pretty much anything would be better than excessively reading forums. Some alternatives off the top of my head are reading, programming, making art, studying, working out, etc.

So that's what you meant by wasting too much time.

I know that feel. I'm going to have to start working on my thesis next semester. My paln: I'm going to cut back on the lurking/reading everything by everyone, and only come in, post, and leave.

I mostly spend time on Vgchartz at work so don't really feel like wasting time at all.
