Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2013 Price Cuts

I think that most if not all of the major consoles will get price cuts in 2013.

Nintendo

DSi-$79, XL-$99 (probably 2014)

3DS-$139 (March), XL-$169 (August)

Wii Mini-$99, Original-discontinue

Wii U 8GB-discontinue, 32GB-$299 (Nov)

Sony

PSP-$99 Vita-$199 (Feb-May)

PS3 12GB-$199, 500GB-$249, 250GB-discontinue (Feb-May)

PS4-$399 (Nov)

Microsoft

360 4GB-$149, 250GB-$249 (Feb-May)

Kinect-$79 (Oct)

720-$499 w/2-year Live Contract-$299 (Nov)

PSP is overdue and I really thought PS3 would get one this year. PS3 will get a cut early in the year to go with all those exclusives to try to explode before E3.

I agree, i just dont understand the reason to have 2 separate models with low storage

a last ditch effort to rap up the 7th gen. on top before the die down.

360-Permanent $50 pricecut sometime during the Summer, specifically the harddrive model, to finally match the 250gig ps3 pre super slim price. Temporary $50 holiday pricecut later that Winter. 4gig 360s will be $100 on black friday in the United States, $150 with kinect.

PS3-250gig ps3 super slim will officially drop to $250(What was sony thinking with the $270 pricetag...) 12gig model will be priced at $199. Further $50 temporary pricecut over the holidays for both systems.

Wii U- Temporary $50 pricecuts over the holiday if it isn't selling to well.

Vita-Permanent price drop to $200. Further 20-$50 temporary pricecut over the holidays.

3ds-Permanent price drop to $150 , $170. Further temporary $40 pricecut over the holidays.

I think Sony may have been testing the waters with a $200 Vita this holiday and given the much improved results I feel like they'll be more willing to do that than keep giving away all the best games for free. Also with God of War, Puppeteer, Sly, Last of Us, and Beyond coming in the first half and a likely PS4 announcement early next year I think we'll see a price drop to $200 for the 250gb early as well.

Sony should release a 12gb model in north america, it's been selling like hotcakes in australia, nearly soldout everywhere.

* Just my opinions mirrored with yours, not saing you are wrong.

PS3-introduce 12GB model at $149, 250GB-$199, 500GB-$249

* Half Agree - PS3-12GB-$169, i believe a $149 would bring losses.

360-4GB-$149 w/Kinect-$199, 250GB-$249 w/Kinect-$299

Kinect-$79

* Agree - A 360-4GB-$149 is a lock, but w/Kinect-$230-250, i am not sure about a Kinect price cut

Wii-introduce Wii Mini at $79, original model-$99

* Half Agree - At holidays next year i can see a Wii-99$, but i believe this Wii-mini would be discontinued or replace the original model.

3DS-$139, XL-$169

* Disagree - 3DS and XL would receive a price cut only if the yen-dollar situation gets better, and this price cut would be only to mirror the prices in Japan, so 3DS-$150, XL-$190

Vita-wifi-$179, 3G-$229 or discontinue 3G model and cut wifi to $199

* Half Agree - A Vita at 179 would bring massive losses, Vita-wifi-$200 minimum

DSi-$79, XL-$99

* Maybe - Would be a waste of money from nintendo, i cant see the benefits, so DSi-$99, XL-$129

PSP-$99

* Agree

not sure if Wii U will get a price cut, possibly cut to $249/299 right before PS4/720 launch if they come out next year depending on there price, or maybe just have black friday/holiday deals. I would personally like it if they discontinued 8GB model and drop 32GB model to $279 but thats not likely. Which consoles do you think will get price cuts next year?

* Half Agree - A $249 WiiU would bring losses, so not happening, but i can see nintendo discontinue the 8GB model and have the 32GB model without a game bundle at $300 right before PS4 and NextBox launch.

Thanks for your input, with PS3 i think they would want the 12GB to match the 4GB Xbox. 3DS was rumored to be getting a price cut to $139 a few weeks ago and i think the XL wouldnt get a price cut until later in the year(when its around 1 year old) so that the price gap between models isnt affected, as for PSP and DS i think those will be the final price cuts before disconinuing them in 2014. Im not sure about Kinect either, maybe they will do 4GB-$149 w/Kinect-$229 and 250GB-$229 w/Kinect-$299
