Forums - Microsoft - Xbox Next will not be a console anymore. My take on Microsoft's Nextbox.

Yup this is what I see too.

It will run Windows RT too and apps.

$299.99 -- Deluxe w/3 Year Subscription to XBLA
$399.99 -- Basic Package (no HDD, small amount of flash RAM)
$499.99 -- Deluxe w/HDD (this is what most people will buy at launch)

It will have a lot of the same Nintendo TVii stuff like the Wii U does, but the 720/PS4 will be more flexible and have more features (ie: play Blu-Ray movies, play all your video content, stream content to and from your smartphone and/or tablet, etc. etc. etc.).

MS will take a $50-$60 loss/unit the first 6 months or so until mass production ramps up, not a big deal.

Destiny (Bungie) and something from Epic will be the lead launch titles. It will be backed by the biggest marketing campaign in video game history.

I say, maybe a 90$ loss for a year.

Yay!!!

It being both Microsoft and the launch of more than 1 console? That's probably more thqn acceptible for such an ambitious move.

M$ will bring the games next gen while offering cool multimedia features. And I sure hope to god that they make gold worthwhile or they're going to have a hard time competing with every other console that offers free online.

If ms prices this more then 450 dollars then nobody will buy it

They could go the cable route and make it so that every game is free and content is paid for by playtime/advertising revenues as well as additional content sold. It'd be an interesting scenario say for instance to charge $300 a year (price of 5 games) to be able to play every console game ever released in a Netflix type scenario.

Edit: Would you pay $25 a month to play all you want on a console? Cable subscriptions can easily cost twice that.

The difficulty would be how the publishers/developers get paid and how much they get paid.

Payment based on how much your game is played? That would ruin a lot of shorter single player game devs.

I figured the whole idea would be to make desirable content. A lot of single player games don't get bought because people don't find them good value but if they're popular then the developers will get rewarded. If you think of all the games that people rent or buy used where the developer gets nothing at least they get paid. It'd be an interesting way of monetising games and it would take a lot of the risk out of development.

Tease.

Will be interesting to see how the next gen plays out, id rather a games console sticks to being just that, but if new features can help push the limits of new games im all in.

So a bit like wii u..?

But it's right.. in few years.. not that many peple will need a pc (or mac)

The consoles are becomming the ultimate tv solution and offer all the content from the internet.. just much smoother.. and they will start having apps to (programs)

Look at wii u.. both the media (netflix and so) and the browser top what any windows pc can do.. and then look at the price.. wii u is truely a pc killer.. (and pc killer. means microsoft core business, is in danger)

Yeah pretty soon they will catch up to what PC's already are lol!  PC's do everything you mentioned far better!  The only thing I will say is most people are too dumb to build one so they don't know console-like sub $300 PC's exist...

I was always hoping that the next xbox would be a reference PC, so all games that are made for the next x years will have to run on it, and PCs with that minimum specs will be blue to run the games. Though the cost of Live doesn't fit into this.

Maybe I'm misreading the OP, but why wouldn't people just jump ship from Xbox to PC if this is what the 720 looks like?

Because even though the 720 could likely become a PC hybrid next gen. Theres a difference between using a PC on your computer table and laying back at your own couch.

Yay!!!
