Forums - General - Religion: Why Take A Guess?

I think these people do believe they have reached the kantian ideal of an universal morality; that is, moral laws that in theory would predate people themselves, just like physical laws, and therefore be applicable to God... that used to be the predominant philosophy on the western world until Nietzsche, Marx etc. brought in the cultural, moral and social relativism.

And might I add, though a bit off-topic, that long-term these relativisms have been the most damaging thing to ever happen to the western world.

If you want God's word and not man's interpretation, the closest thing you can get is an untranslated Jewish bible.

Still, there is no way anyone can confirm that the Jewish Bible truly contains God's views and opinions with 100% accuracy.

It all comes down to faith; to believing that the text inside that Bible is accurate. I can understand if some people find it the most believable, but completely excluding all other possible scenarios makes no sense to me. Especially when fact remains that God's word's accuracy is uncertain.

I believe in objective universal morals. I don't believe however, that God in which i believe in is necessarily defined by the morals i hold. My views on God mostly deistic (with some abrahamic characteristics) while my spirituality is christian and is defined by my morals. So my view on God isn't dependent or defined by my moral spirituality

What is spirituality?

Immaterial reality of the deepest values and meanings by which people live. It's also an inner path to discovering the essence of your being

So, the same as character or morality?

What does "dicovering the essece of your being" mean?

No, morality has more to do with manners, proper behaviour and ethics and it's objective, unlike spirituality which varies very much from person to person. Although i agree, there are similarly between definitions.

That means discovering the path to your inner happiness and peace with your soul and conscience.

Why are you even asking all this if you dont believe in it? It's not like you're ever going to see the world outside its material form

Anyone who doesn't take a literal reading of the Bible; who chooses certain passages to follow and certain not to, are projecting their own morals onto it and are being inconsistent.

Even if you say, Jesus says the Old Testament is obsolete, to avoid some of the harsher passages, there are millions of Christians who take those parts seriously and actively try and stop, for example, homosexuals living happy lives. Either the moderate is wrong or they are, and it seems strange that God/Jesus didn't make it clear which one of them is right, and is allowing millions of people to live with the wrong idea.

The question that you should be asking yourself isn't if the God's word is his actual word, but whether or not do you yourself  actually agree with that word . If you do, you choose to believe it's true and follow it. If not, you reject it. It's really that simple

If you're prepared to believe in things that aren't material or have no evidence, why not unicorns? They're playful and cute and don't ask you to spend weekends in a huge building listening to someone.

But God's word is ambigious. Which version should I believe? By choosing a version, might I not be wrong compared to someone who chose otherwise?

It all falls if it is not his actual word though, and there is no way anyone can prove that it is. Not even considering the possibility that it may not be God's word is just foolish.

Tell me how unicorns are gonna help me achieve any of those things i listed

And no one is asking me to spend weekends in huge building listening to someone. You know absolutely nothing about me and my spiritual and religious beliefs, so stop with the stereotyping and prejudicing bullshit
